The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird flipped out when she saw round 1 of the heirloom tomatoes I picked this afternoon. Rainbow salsa will definitely be on the menu for tomorrow night. And here on out until the end of September.
I absolutely LOVE this time of year.

Mavis says
Hang in there… it will happen. We still have time.
Desi says
Kat, I’m in the same boat you are. Lots of tomatoes on my 30 plants but have only had 3 to eat so far.
Jennifer Andersen says
Those are beautiful!!
Mavis says
Thanks Jennifer. They are almost to pretty to eat.
Sarah says
Beautiful! I’m jealous! I was so hot and dry so quick into the growing season here, that our tomato season was cut short :(. Now, August is cool (80s-90s) and would be perfect. Maybe next year I’ll plant two rounds.
Mavis says
That is a great idea Sarah!
Desi says
I know mine are gettting there but would they just hurry up! What type of tomato is that huge yellow one and the green stripe ones?
Mavis says
Yellow – Moonglow
Green Stripes – Green Zebra 🙂

do you have a specific recipe for the rainbow salsa? I planted my tomatoes super late so they are just blossoming now (sigh) But QFC had a small amount of heirloom romas that I bought because it sounded so good when you made this blog…
I live up on the eastside of seattle and i’m addicted to your blog!
Mrs. Hillbilly says
Are these from Granny hillbilly seeds? I have better have a nice fresh tomato or two on my doorstep soon! Craving a southern tomato sandwich!!!
Mavis says
Yes. Go talk to the HH tomorrow and get some tomatoes.
