Yesterday I headed out to the garden with the intention of planting more flower bulbs {I still have about 800 left to plant}. But as I was raking leaves away from an old tree covered in moss, I began to see something.
A fairy garden. Or rather a potential fairy garden.
I’ve never planted one before, but don’t you I think I could plant a fairy garden in this little niche? All I would need to do is fill the empty space with a wee bit of dirt, build a tiny structure out of sticks {for the fairies} and maybe add a few pebbles. What do YOU think? Or would that be totally dorky? Are fairy gardens like mud pies? Is there an age limit on this kind of stuff?
Let me know what you think, because I’m headed out to the garden today {rain or shine} to continue clearing brush and planting bulbs.

I think fairy gardens are the coolest things ever (but then again, I think mud pies are awesome, too)!!! Maybe Ernesto could visit the fairies 😉

I love it. I think a bit of whimsy is perfect for that niche. Can’t wait to see pictures! 🙂

I think Fairy Gardens are wonderful- no age limit there.

What a wonderful idea. You could start in the crotch of the tree and go down from there. Some fairies need high places to hide and then the larger village could be on the ground. Now that your have sent pictures and got it started my mind is in full gear. That whole area would be great for Fairies.

And after you do make this fairy garden, do not forget to put food out for them so they know it’s for them! They like sweet things, those fairies do. Bread soaked in a mixture of milk and sugar will do the trick. Trust me, I know because I am Hungarian Gypsy.

You so need to do this. It is huge. I can see it. Make sure to add some extra peat moss . Make them a really cute home. I agree with Kathy set a table. You will have fariys in no time

Is there really a question of IF you should do this? I think it’s more like WHEN? 😉
I agree with everyone here. No age restrictions on fun and whimsy. We all need a bit more of it actually.
Love your blog! Addicted, actually. 😉

Definately not an age limit, at the present time I am appliqueing flowers around the border on a fairy themed quilt for my 53year old sister. I have to add that her house has been taken over by fairies, everything fairy she loves.

I remember when I was about 5, making a little house in the above-ground roots of a tree for the fairies to live in. My friend & I would make little furniture, leave berries & nuts for them every day, and we’d be so excited the next day when we’d see that the fairies had been there & taken the food!!!! We didn’t have a book about how to do it, and no adults ever gave us the idea. We just saw those roots & our imaginations did the rest. I’m 52 now and (obviously) still remember it as one of my favorite childhood memories.

oh Mavis – please build a Fairy Garden. growing old, growing up, growing out, growing growing growing – we should never grow out of the Fairy Garden phase of our lives. that would just be so sad.

I LOVE this! So great that you can see little coves and place within trees and nature that just look so enchanting, naturally. My daughter and I now use that as part of our nature walks. Seems you can walk much more when searching for these hidden treasures! Great images!
