A big THANK YOU to everyone who has sent in their photographs and stories. I hope by sharing other people’s pictures and stories here on One Hundred Dollars a Month we can all have a rock star garden this summer. Keep them coming!
Today we are featuring Julie from Oregon. Here is what she had to say:
Hi Mavis,
Here are some pictures from our garden in Southern Oregon. The weather here is hot and dry during the day with cooler temperatures at night. Since we’ve moved here we’ve been slowly adding to our garden and making our yard more of our own.
We love trees and planting a few special ones when we moved in was important to us. This is an elephant heart plum. It’s sweet and juicy and the plums are slightly larger than average (about baseball size). It is slightly tart so it makes a perfect crisp.
Plum tree is at the end of the path. Another raised bed to the left. And a rogue tomato plant from seeds of last year’s tomato that popped up. It doesn’t get any water, but is thriving perfectly! How nature intended!
This is one of our 3 raised beds. This one holds zucchini, tomatoes, beans, peppers, cucumber, basil and marigolds.
Sungold tomatoes are my kid’s favorite!
This is a picture from spring of our irises. A neighbor gave us the purple ones saying that his grandmother brought them over on the Oregon Trail! Even if it isn’t completely true, I love to think it is!
Thank you for letting me share pictures of our garden! I enjoy reading your blog and seeing everyone’s garden pictures.
~Julie
If you would like to have your garden, chicken coop, pantry or something you’ve made featured on One Hundred Dollars a Month, here’s what I’m looking for:
- Your Garden Pictures and Tips – I’d especially like to see your garden set ups, growing areas, and know if you are starting seeds indoors this year. If so, show me some picture of how you are going about it.
- Your Pantry Pics – Submit at least 5 HIGH QUALITY pictures of your pantry/fridge/cabinets, as well as a short blurb {at the very least} about you and your food habits.
- Your Chicken and Chicken Related Stories – Coops, Chicks, Hen’s, Roosters, Eggs, you name it. If it clucks, send us some pictures to share with the world.
- Cool Arts & Crafts – Made from your very own hands with detailed {and well photographed} pictures and instructions.
- Your pictures and stories about your pets. The more pictures and details the better.
- Garage Sale, Thrift Store and Dumpster Diving pictures and the stories behind the treasures you found including how much you paid for them.
If I feature your pictures and the stories behind them on One Hundred Dollars a Month, I will send you a $20.00 gift card to the greatest store in the world: Amazon.com.

Your yard is so pretty. Love the irises. Mine are transplants from my mom’s garden. She purchased in the late 70s so that story could be true.
