It may be raining outside, but that didn’t stop me from taking a few snapshots of the garden. Check out the potato tower! The leaves are totally popping out.
The French Breakfast radishes look like they are ready to harvest.
The chives should bloom any day now.
The first crop of beets need to be thinned.
The cabbage I started from seed is coming along nicely.
And the rainbow Swiss chard is taking shape in the raised garden beds.
And the Sugar Snap Peas… Lets not forget about those. It appears they are finally beginning to find their way up the handmade pea trellis.
Wowza! Does it get any better than this?
How is YOUR garden coming along on this beautiful spring day?

Your gardens look fantastic!!! How in the world do you keep everything so weed free?!?! And what about those pesky slugs? What do you do about those icky sticky things?
Mavis says
I pour salt on every slug I see. 🙂

I love that pea trellis!

Everything looks great! My peas aren’t doing so hot. I planted about 25 or so and only 4 came up. I’ll fill in with some more bean seeds since my bush beans are a bit of a bust, too. Pole beans are great so far though…and the peppers and tomatoes are thriving. The bugs are munching on the squash and eggplant and beans tho…the DE isn’t so effective this year for some reason.

Maybe you need more chicken fertilizer?

It’s autumn down here in New Zealand, and your sugar snaps are doing a mile better then mine, I just had to sow a new crop of snow peas to replace the whole lot!
Mavis says
Perhaps you should send me an airline ticket to New Zealand so I can help you in the garden? 😉
Lisa says
Sweet, I just bought an extra spade too! Lol

I am soooooo glad you posted a picture of your beets!! I was just going to weed my garden (no lie) and was going to pull those red weeds (beets) out. I had forgotten I planted beets (for the 1st time) this year. Your garden is beautiful Mavis!
Mavis says
Thanks Gwen!

Beautiful garden. I’m green as a sugar snap pea with envy! I’m just starting to bring in tomatoes but the sneaky cucumbers didn’t want to wait for them and have been producing full force. That being said, I’m having a bad case of ‘basil brown thumb’ this season and I’m almost in a panic. What would we do without pesto in the freezer this winter? Love reading about your gardening and seeing all the lovely photos!

Thanks Robbie!

Mavis, I love your garden! It’s not too late to start a potato tower is it? Also, how do you keep the slugs out?!!! Amazing work you’ve done! if you find yourself drowning in strawberries … I can help you out 🙂
Mavis says
I think you can start a potato tower this weekend. No problem! As for the slugs, I pour salt on them. 🙂

Thought of your awesome blog today as I dropped off an auction donation and was invited to help thin my friend’s overgrown rhubarb. Oh the things I do for friends. 😉
Rhubarb cinnamon jam, here I come!

To protect the sun flower heads from the birds I get sheer used curtains from Goodwill ,cut, and mk a cover for the heads., gathering the bottom, pleating and using a clothes pin to hold in place. U do this after the have neared maturity and just before the birds start to feed.
