Chino the Handyman showed up bright an early this morning to deliver our new fireplace mantel. His family fell a some trees a few years ago and had them milled into giant timbers. This beauty has been sitting in Chino’s garage for about 5 years. Apparently a real fireplace matle isn’t in my budget, so were going to use this instead.
Chino is all about saving money on this project. In fact the backslash tile for the laundry room is some random, leftover stuff from another job he’s had sitting in his warehouse for the past two years. I have no idea what it even looks like. But I trust him, so I’m just going with it.
What do you think? The beam is about 12 inches wide {plenty of room for candles and knick knacks} and about 4 1/2″ inches thick. I think it will look nice once it’s cut and stained.
And the new kitchen cabinets.
They’re here! And I love them. Clean, crisp and WHITE. The HH will be picking up the nickle cup bin pulls I picked out on his way home from work today. I have always wanted white cabinets. And now that the kids are older, I can have them and not have to worry about sticky hands or having to constantly wipe them down.
Yee Haw, the finish line is in sight. I can smell it. Only about 4 more weeks to go!

I have white cabinets that have a glaze on them that I adore. I do have to wipe them off more frequently, but it is worth it. I love the beam for the mantle. I think it will look fantastic when it all comes together!

I agree with you, Jenn! Mavis, your place is looking great one piece at a time. Hugs!

Thanks! Seeing it start to come together has been so much fun.

Maybe I am just a messy cook! I have a slightly more traditional version of your cabinet doors and I end up using a toothpick or a kebab skewer to get the gunk out of the corner of the doors, Love white but if I was picking I would go plain!

Yer gonna LOVE your kitchen. Those are hands down my favorite style of cabinets, I’m so excited to see it. And bin pulls…be still my heart. The mantle wood is beautiful, too.

That’s a beautiful piece of cedar. I wouldn’t do anything but rub cedar oil on it.

I have exactly the same cabinets!!! Love them, they are so easy to keep clean. You just wipe them off. (to clarify, I have them in my multipurpose room, my kitchen cabinets are old and well, ugly)

2 years ago I was FINALLY in a position to remodel my kitchen and those are the exact cabinets I picked. Within 4 weeks of the kitchen remodel being completed, I’d purchased a new home and left my dream kitchen remodel behind……………:( But I still LOVE the cabinets. I intend to put them in the new place when we finally get around to starting the remodel here. Nothing sharper than clean white cabinets in the kitchen. Hope you enjoy them!

I’m kind of excited to have a crisp white kitchen. They always seem so clean and airy.

I love that mantel! It is exactly what I want for my fireplace but they cost an absolute fortune here. I would just rub cedar oil on it and leave it just as it is. That will look fantastic with your floors and the tile. You very lucky to have Chino!
Mavis Butterfield says
Totally lucky to have Chino–no worries that I am going to have a renovation nightmare with him around.

That beam from Chino’s warehouse is awesome. I need a Chino to remodel my house!!! Good contractors can be hard to find but he looks like a keeper!
Mavis says
He totally is a keeper!
