While I was away the hardwood floors and kitchen countertops were installed. As you can see there is cardboard covering the high traffic areas but you can still get the overall feel of how the floor will look when all the work is done and the workers have packed up and gone home. {Only a couple more weeks to go!}
I was a little worried the color was a wee bit too dark but with all the windows we have and the lighter walls I think the floor looks great.
About a week and a half ago I asked for your help choosing best countertop would be to go with my white cabinets. The comments poured in and the HH and I were 100% sure we were going to go with the Serra Pental Quartz {#2}. We both thought a light countertop would look great with the dark hardwood floors we had choose, and we had heard quartz was super easy to maintain, so we were feeling pretty confident when we stopped by Pental to order the countertop with Javier.
But when we saw the Serra Pental Quartz as a giant slab and we knew instantly we had made the wrong choice.
I just couldn’t handle the big chunks of grey, green and brown floating all over the place. The countertop felt like 1970 to me {does that even make sense?} and although I loved the way the smaller sample piece looked, I knew in my gut I wasn’t going to like the way it looked with my white cupboards once it was installed.
So the HH and I went up and down the aisles and found two other slabs we liked. One was a green glass countertop and the other was a slab of white marble. Both totally out of our price range. 😉
So we wandered back over to the countertops we could afford and ended up choosing Pental Cappuccino Polished Quartz. We both liked it as soon as we spotted it and felt like the cappuccino one was a safe choice. With the combination of dark floors, white kitchen cabinets and dark backslash tiles we knew we’d able to pull off a cozy, comfortable open kitchen/family room setting.
This house has a ton of natural light, and so finding the right balance between dark and light colors without going wild on any one thing was kind of tricky. Sometimes I forget how conservative I can be when it comes to house stuff {and it makes me crazy sometimes}.
What do you think? Love it, hate it… Think we should of gone with something else?
Making choices under pressure can be HARD!

I like what you did with the cardboard, great color, looks smashing with the yellow tape border.
Kidding, it looks wonderful. It’s hard to choose from small samples.

The floors & countertops look great. I am anxious to see the backsplash. I just love before & after!

Looks like a great choice! Curious to see how its going to look with a dark backsplash. We decided on cream colored subway tile for ours. Trying to stay classic and timeless ’cause I’m kind of a wimp and conservative like that. 😉

The dark backsplash is a little on the flashy side for me too. I hope it turns out okay.

I was for #2 also, but your right sometimes seeing the big piece is totally different. I wouldn’t have liked big pieces of the floating color either. I like your choice. The colors are good and the pattern of it is not busy. I think it will work well to pull everything together and have a cozy instead of sterile feel. I like it!!
