I don’t know how else to explain all the food we ate last week other than to say I am proud to announce cleaning out the refrigerator, freezer and pantry was a huge success. Pretty much all that was left by the last day was a frozen ham and some random condiments that we dropped off at the Hillbillies house on the way out of town.
I did splurge on Valentine’s Day though and picked up one of Costco’s ready made meatloaf and mashed potato dinners. Have you tried the Costco meatloaf yet? It’s crazy good.
After loading up the U-Haul and placing all of our things in storage on Saturday {we aren’t leaving the area just yet, I’ll tell you more about it in my next post} we spent one last night at the house {sleeping with just pillows and blankets on the floor} so we could thoroughly clean the house the next day. When we woke up on Sunday morning it was snowing. 🙂 🙂 🙂 I took it as a sign of good things to come. Because you know…. I LOVE SNOW.
The Girl had to jet off to work so it was just the HH and I cleaning the house and boy did it go quick. I thought it might take all day but it’s amazing how fast you can work when you’re in an empty house {with no distractions} and jamming to 80’s tunes.
Goodbye empty pantry.
A little something for the new homeowners.
The HOA house. It may not have been our dream home, and words can’t even describe how HAPPY we were to close the doors and drive away… but you know what? I hope the new owners are happy living there. I truly believe there is a home and neighborhood for everyone.
Fitting in, knowing where you belong, and being comfortable in your own home, is HUGE.
Have a WONDERFUL Monday everyone,
~Mavis

Safe travels. I am going to miss you being “just up the road”. Living in the Portland area, I could easily relate to what you wrote. Excited to hear about your next chapter.

We had a costco membership once and I just can’t justify the cost of shopping somewhere. Back then we were a family of four and I found we had too much stuff that was freezer burnt because we just didn’t eat the bulk stuff fast enough. And even though I work up to 50 hrs a week, I still make quite a few things myself. I am not crazy about meat loaf but my family is, so I pre-make that up and freeze it when I freeze my meatballs and hamburger patties.
You’re doing really well on your challenge though

Adios, Gig Harbor, and HELLO, New England! You are on your way!! Somehow, Mavis, you made the whole process of packing to move look so easy… (And, yes, I do get it that we only saw random bits of it and that your huge focus on clearing out over the past couple of years facilitated the packing big time.) Safe travels to you & HH — may all of the road trip surprises be good ones! Catch you on the other side…

Great attitude and so nice of you to leave treats and a spotless house for the new owners!

Really thoughtful! I arrived to do a final walkthrough at a house I was buying and it was so filthy that my realtor asked for a $400 cleaning credit at the closing. Seeing the grime took all of the excitement out of the purchase, but that credit lessened the sting.

Excited for you and this great big change!!

You are the best home seller ever! Spotless house plus champagne. Very nice, I hope your new home is in similar condition when you get there!

I am so sad to “see” you go. Living in Silverdale, I always hoped to run into you somewhere and get an autograph and photo with you! No Joke! I will faithfully continue to read your blog and wish you the most happy success in your new home.

Funny that you woke up to a dusting of snow in Gig Harbor. We were predicted to get an inch or so here in seacoast New Hampshire overnight on Saturday and woke up to SIX inches on Sunday. But it was mostly all melted by Sunday afternoon. This week we are supposed to have 70 degree temps on Wednesday—so maybe your ground will be thawed out by the time you get here—or maybe not. That is how Spring comes to New England, in “fits and starts.”

WhooHoo!! So happy for you! Hope the new “digs” are just what you want & need! Safe travels!

A lovely gesture leaving Champaign and cider for the new homeowners. Not to mention leaving a sparkling clean house Good karma! Looking forward to your new adventures. All the best to you! Cheers!

Did you figure out a way to take apart the garden boxes to take with you? They were so lovely, I still can’t believe the new peeps didn’t want them.
Like others have said, so sad you are leaving the PNW. Yet, so excited that you are living your dreams. Looking forward to reading your next adventures in NE.
Nothing but good thoughts and best wishes for a safe and fun road trip!
Mavis Butterfield says
No I didn’t. Taking them apart was out of the question and in the end it was just too difficult {moving out all the dirt} and cutting the beams would have just made the boxes too small.
