Last week my friend Amberlina came to visit me. I hadn’t seen her since last December, so I was pretty excited. She’s a trouble maker that one. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
As far as my grocery shopping went, it’s a good thing I have a garden, and I like to cook most of our food from scratch, because I didn’t buy much. Feeding you family for $100 a month is kind of funny, some weeks I am able to bring home a ton of food with the help of coupons and killer deals, and other weeks I just pretty much avoid the store all together and live off our stockpile.
Below are pictures of what I picked up last week.
Albertsons $ .08
On the last day of doublers last Tuesday, I was able to pick up a block of cream cheese, a bunch of cilantro and a jalapeno pepper for only $.08 after using my catalina coupons from my previous trip to Albertsons. I needed the jalapeno for a recipe, and it didn’t dawn on my until afterwards that I could have just picked a jalapeno from the greenhouse.
Darn! I totally could have saved a quarter.
Fast forward to Saturday, and The Girl and I made a last minute trip into the grocery store for movie snacks. The verdict seems to be about 50/50 in whether or not it’s appropriate to sneak snacks into a movie theater.
Fred Meyer $5.00
Milk and orange juice is only $1.00 per half gallon this week at Fred Meyer Grocery with the in ad coupon.
Uwajimaya Market – $1.59
Uwajimaya Market is the coolest place ever. Plus they sell bags of fortune cookies for only $1.59. The fortunes inside the cookies is a whole other story though.
Total Spent This Week $15.43
Total Spent This Year $804.09
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $484.46
Total “Seed Money” donations received $23.00

P.S. – Why buys Smuckers Uncrustables? Are they any good? I can’t imagine a pre-made PB&J sandwich tastes any good.

Hey Amber from the other site! She must be one of the non-crazies; good for her!
We didn’t buy much last week either – same reason as you. Although Rosauer’s has 2# cheese for $2.99, use the $1 off coupon in ID/UT and got those for $1.99. We’ll be getting some of that milk and juice this week too – you can get chocolate, you know! And you can freeze it…and it’s not gross or funky at all.
I buy Uncrustables! When the littles are going to be home alone for a bit, I take them out to thaw before we go. I get them with double coupons at Walmart for 50-cents a box. I have not personally eaten them, but the littles love them.

Amber has ALWAYS been nice to me. 😉 I think I might get Monkey Boy 1 container of the chocolate milk towards the end of the week. We’ll see. If I buy it I know he will drink it in 3 hours. LOL

I rarely buy anything prepackaged, but I have on occasion (with good coupons) bought Uncrustables and my kids LOVE them. I’ve tried them and they’re not bad! It seems weird, I know, but they’re actually tasty, and don’t get soggy.
Amberlina says
Ahh, Mavieroo! It was so wonderful to see you. Not only did I have some of the best french toast EVER, but I think you bought the best shirt EVER! All in all, I’d say it was a productive day!
Mavis says
Yes, I think productive was the word of the day. 🙂

Uncrustables are amazing! Every one of my boys loves them (even my DH). Perfect for camping too. Just toss in the cooler and your good to go. They do get REALLY messy with a toddler though, they have a lot of jelly in them!

My kids like the uncrustables, but I never seem to land good deals on them! I bought a plastic thing in the bread aisle makes that cuts and seals a sandwich, so my kids make their own uncrustables now. . . it’s good for keeping them busy for a few minutes!
Stefanie says
My little ones LOVE uncrustables! I read on myfrugaladventures.com that it’s super easy to make them yourself, a tip given was to spread pb on both sides of the bread and put jelly in the middle- apparently this helps prevent the sandwiches from getting soggy when you freeze them. Then use large cookie cutters to cut them out into whatever shapes you want, put them in zipper bags and freeze them! I haven’t tried it myself yet, but I am going to soon! Ooh, also, so that you don’t just toss the rest of the sandwich you can freeze the “outer” part and give that to older kids or just eat it yourself.

“Amberlina” seems as adorable as you! Glad you had some fun with a real friend 🙂

Wowza, Amber looks great since she has been getting skinny doing Paleo, which makes me think is some form of pilatesl, even tho I know better. Good friends KEEP no matter what the confusion surrounds them. What kind of shirt did you buy? No offense, but your clothing budget seems to be all black t’s. Put me in a thrift shop with your tiny body, and I would have two carts full of clothes for you.
Mavis says
Helen, you don’t even know how awesome your comment about my clothing is. LOL. I have been wearing the same “uniform” for about 7 years now. 🙂 I’m not a fan of shopping for clothing. Plus, this way, I don’t have to worry about what to wear, I just go for the black shirt and dark wash jeans.
Freakin’ awesome!
As for the shirt I bought? Oh, you’ll know it when you see it. Trust me on that one. 😉 Amberlina made me buy it {and it’s not from the Gap or is it black}.

We’ve enjoyed the smuckers uncrustables. I got them for free last fall, and they kept us full and me happy to not have to make sandwiches all through the fall dirtbike season.
Susan says
Since you asked, my normally non-discerning daughter had an uncrustable at a friends house and later told me it was the most disgusting thing ever.
PB&J sandwiches take all of 30 seconds to make, and (depending on your choice of bread, pb, and jam) they’re a heck of a lot healthier. Uncrustables are nothing but chemical and preservative laden junk.
Read this article and you will never eat or feed your kid one again!
