Even though I spent a lot of time playing in the dirt this week, I still managed to squeeze in a few quick shopping trips. My favorite “shopping” trip last week wasn’t really shopping at all. I mean really, what normal person would consider picking up “chicken scraps shopping? I think it would be more like scavenging wouldn’t you?
I still find the whole topic of food waste amazing, and in my next post I’ll show you what I was able to reclaim from the boxes and what I did with all of it.
But first, here’s what else made its way into our kitchen this week:
If you have not signed up for Vitacost yet you should. Not only do they have great prices on dry goods and specialty foods, but when you sign up Vitacost will email you a code for $10 off your first order. Pretty sweet if you ask me!
I need to figure out a way to stock up on flour and sugar before canning season begins. Once the zucchinis start rolling in I’ll probably go through at least a 25 pound bag of flour for zucchini bread alone.
Milk was $2.49 a gallon, and the English muffins and sack of bagels were both marked down to $1.25 each.
Whoop there it is!
Total Spent This Week $23.86
Total Spent This Year $454.96
Total Spent This Year on Garden Seeds/Supplies $383.40
How did you do this week? Buy anything good? Was there any scavenging going on in your neck of the woods?

Love Mondays with Mavis! I’m always impressed – even the weeks you just hit Costco. I’m so inspired but what you do. I just need to put it into action. Now, I’m also looking forward to ‘Almost trash Tuesdays…’ or ‘Chicken scrap Tuesday’ or whatever you call it 🙂 I think you should also have a Weigh in Wednesday or something like that to post everything you harvested for the week. I know, that’s a lot, considering you’re gardening 2000 pounds this year, but if anyone can, it’s you. Love your blog – keep ’em coming!!
Mavis says
Great minds think alike Heather. Weigh in Wednesdays has been in the works for awhile now, I’ve just been waiting until I actually had some decent totals. I like the idea of Almost Trash Tuesdays… How fun!

Mavis,
I used to follow you on fabulessly frugal. I remember back when you had those wonderful $1 off pork coupons. I found some coupons at Fred Meyer yesterday and am wondering if they are the same. They say save $1 on Fresh Port on one side and the other side says save $1 on Moist and Tender Pork. I am just wondering if this is a brand of pork or if I should be able to use them on bacon at Albie’s deli?? I would to break it up in packs like you did and get some cheap bacon. Any guidance would be helpful. Thanks so much Mavis. I am glad I found your blog!
Mavis says
I don’t know, I have not seen that particular coupon yet. For some reason I think the pork coupon I had last summer just said Save $1.00 off fresh pork. I wish I could be more helpful. Bacon is the way to go if the coupon works! 🙂
Stephanie says
Thanks Mavis. It does say that on one side! I guess I can try and see.

I found the $1 pork coupons at QFC. They had pork roasts for .99 lb. and I bought a few 3 lb. roasts (smallest ones) for $2 each (.66 lb.) Pork steaks ended up being .50 – .60 for 2!!
The coupon is put out by the National Pork Board and when I went to their website, it looks like the ” Moist and Tender ” is their catchphrase. (Like MM-MM Good for Campbell’s soups)
I had no problem using them at QFC. They scanned just fine. Good idea for getting bacon!! I’ll have to try that 🙂
Stephanie says
Thank you so much for your response! Yes, break bacon up into small packs at Albie’s. I am worried it won’t scan, because I found it at Fred Meyer, but am hoping for the best. fred Meyer manufacturer coupons are notorious for not scanning elsewhere, even though the coupon doesn’t say Fred meyer. Thanks for the website info!

My thirteen year old daughter saw the photos of your food purchases this week and desperately wants to know how you got all those cans of Starbucks beverages so cheaply!
Mavis says
Hi Kate,
In this past Sundays paper there was a coupon for a FREE can Starbucks Refreshers drink. The coupon was found in the Pepsi coupon booklet date 4/29/2012. Go check your Sunday paper if you got one. 🙂
Kate in NY says
OK, this is probably a dumb question, but I am really new to couponing . . . how did you get so many cans with just the one coupon???
Mavis says
I used 70 coupons 🙂

mavis,
just found your site ! You rock girl! I was wondering how you got the cheese balls from Albertson? Could you give more details and coupons you use so we could try to follow? Or could you direct me to the site that you use for your Albertsons matchups maybe that would be easier . You seem pretty busy! I know you put me to shame. Keep up the really good work.
Mavis says
Hi Lori, you can see my Albertsons transaction in detail HERE

Mavis,
How long ago did you find the $1.00 peelie coupons for the cheese balls, and at what store?
Great Job!
Mavis says
Yesterday. At Albertsons 😉
D'Anna says
Nice haul and WTG on the pre-order, I wish more people would do that especially when Albie’s makes it so easy.
Michelle says
I sure wish our Albie’s would let us pre-order! We have 3 stores, and 2 have told me that they will NOT pre-order items at all…the 3rd one will ONLY pre-order items if you aren’t using doublers or coupons period on the items. 🙁 Thanks so much, Mavis, for sharing your deals and hard work!!!

Hi Mavis,
your example is so inspiring! I admire your gardening style!
I’ve been reading your posts since you started collaborating with Amber. Since then I’ve been wondering which Abertsons you shop at?
