Just like Christmas decorations or gardening supplies, furniture is a seasonal product for Costco. Every January and June Costco Warehouses all over the country are flooded with couches, dining room tables, bed sets and accent pieces. Well this year there was something I spotted right away. The red accent table above. As soon as I saw it in the warehouse I knew it would be perfect for our family room.
But I just couldn’t justify spending $279.99 for it. So I waited… and waited and waited.
And then finally last week I found the floor model on sale for $99 at the back of the store. There wasn’t a scratch on it so I swooped it up and I scored $180.99 off the original sale price.
That’s about 65% off. Not to shabby if you ask me!
Have you bought furniture from Costco before? Were you happy with it?

Not only did you save money, you saved time because it was already put together! My husband and I just put together a t.v. stand this weekend that was wickedly hard!

We did that with a desk at Sam’s Club. We loved it but thought it was too expensive. We went back several times, hoping it’d be marked down. Finally we went back and they only had the floor model. They gave us a decent % off AND it never would’ve fit in my car if it would’ve been in the box. Since it was open and in pieces, it fit perfectly to take home in my car.

We’ve done that at Ikea. Saw something we liked then happened to be there at the right time going through their clearance section and found a BUNCH of really, really nice stuff for 40%+ off. They had appliances, beds, bedding, furniture and cabinets (it is Ikea afterall). We found out from a staff member that they just redid the displays upstairs and these were the display items, never been used or returned. We are redoing our kitchen next year so this year I’m going to start hunting the clearance section of Ikea for appliances, table, chairs and some cabinets (if I’m lucky).

We bought a floor sample commercial dehydrator for 65% off. Worth every single penny! I HATE paying retail to begin with!

We purchased four leather chairs from Costco for our school library three years ago. The high-school kids jump into them, sit sideways in the, sit on the arms and do other “high-school age kid furniture abuse” things and they still look almost new. They have held up really well. Great job on the score – that red is lovely.

Typically I don’t, although it can be hard to resist. I’ve spotted some nice, attractively priced items there. Most of it is imported though and I question the labor practices, chemicals used in manufacturing and fuels involved in shipping. Obviously, it isn’t possible to take this approach with all the things I need to buy in my life, but domestically made furniture is still widely available. Particularly in the southeast which is where we live.

That was a great score. I have never been in a Costco even though there is one in Huntsville. I was proud of my youngest daughter when she got her first apartment. She went for floor models and scratch and dent at great savings. The small scratch on her refrigerator was on the side up against the wall. The rip in the sectional was between the pieces and never showed. Floor models were dirt cheap. She giggled as she told me what she had gotten for cheap. I have also never been in an Ikea.

Yes and yes! We bought a craft table at Costco last year and love it. Has survived being moved around our house plenty of times. I rarely make it to the back of the store. I try to stick to my list but may have to venture around more to find good deals. Thanks for sharing.

I bought the display set of 3 leather power recliner entertainment set in dark brown 8 years ago or so. It is fairly classic style but does have the cup holders for our coffee. The leather has held up really well. Sis bought a lovely formal dining room set with 8 chairs about 12 years ago. It is lovely and looks like it could have been in Thomasville or Drexel Heritage.

Oh, these were all from Costco in January when they replace all Christmas gifts and trim with furniture for 2 months.

I got a gorgeous solid wood wine cabinet with a beveled glass door and a granite top for $89 at the downtown Seattle Costco, floor models for the win!

You can run into problems buying the floor model though. My parents bought a big recliner that had been the floor model and one arm is all deformed. I don’t know if it came to the store like that or if it happened from hundreds (thousands?) of people sitting on it and touching it and whatnot. It’s probably fine but we like symmetry and one side is not exactly padded where you would rest your arm. So look at stuff carefully before you buy.
