This fun tip literally saves your money and saves you money! If you use a laundromat, have kids in college or ever have to park downtown, this post is for you. It makes me crazy when I’m in need of a quarter and I have to rummage through my purse and battle with all the other lesser coins until I find one. And then if I give up before I find one, I end up breaking a dollar for change when I already have a purse full of change. Simple solution {the simple things are typically the most helpful, right?!}: used candy containers.
This little upcycling project is perfect because not only does it wrangle in all those wayward quarters, but you also get to eat the candy first. Score!! Just remember to save your used containers, rinse and dry them, and then fill them up with quarters {mini M&M containers are the perfect size and they hold $20 worth of quarters!}. I just throw one in my glove compartment and one in my purse so I’m always covered.
Do you have the perfect spot for change? Any helpful tips to keep it organized? Share away in the comments!

Love it! ๐
I used to carry quarters around in an old medicine bottle, like from the pharmacy. Your idea is so much more fun!

Great idea! And as an added bonus, should you leave the container out on the seat or console, no one looking in the car would guess that was money rather than candy.

I’m just wondering why your site is in maintenance mode so often these days?

A medicine bottle works for me. I also have a tiny bottle from otc meds that works for about $3 worth of quarters. I buy these all the time.

That is so funny b/c I’ve been using my kids mini m and m tubes for holding chucke cheese coins. ๐

Great idea! I also use mini m&m’s for homemade granola bars. Then I reuse the containers for mini snacks: goldfish, raisins, pretzel sticks, trail mix, oyster crackers. Then I can easily stash a toddler snack in my bag without it getting crushed like if it was in a baggie. It’s also a great size for a little one to hold themselves while they’re chilling in a shopping cart during errands. I usually remove the labels so it doesn’t look like my kids are constantly eating candy. ๐

I used to do this to keep my money in middle school!

Would be perfect to throw in a backpack for school. Thanks for the tip!

Alternate two quarters then one penny in those m and m containers and you are all set for the smashed penny souvenirs when you travel. Kids love them and it’s a pretty inexpensive souvenir. We keep them in the car/truck and each kid has their own color container.

This is an awesome idea! Those smashed penny machines are so popular!
