Any and all organizing will be of the garden sort for the next few months. Yes, yes it will. Organizing sticks into the shape of teepees… check. Organizing vegetables into cute little rows…. check. Organizing seed packets… check. See where I’m going with this? 🙂
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
We are finished remodeling for the year. Yay! Next spring we will install new carpets but other than that, there are no more major projects to tackle. We {I} still have an enormous amount of touch up painting to do but that can all be done this fall {after gardening season of course}.
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
I am confident I’ll get all the rooms put together by the end of the year. But for now, using a box as an end table and an old toy bin for a coffee table is just going to have to work, until I can come across some good furniture deals this summer at yard sales.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself.
6. Create a Vegetable Garden.
I could not figure out why half of my {shaded} vegetable garden was doing well and the other half was struggling. Then yesterday after placing an order for 5 yards of Tagro {for my soon to be built garden boxes and squash patch} I figured it out. Earlier this spring I spread a few containers of Tagro mulch in the area where the giant cabbage are growing. Duh…
Note to self: spread Tagro on right side of shaded vegetable garden next week.
7. Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden. Build a fence instead.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
It’ was like the bag of Dove chocolates was screaming BUY ME as I walked by! $3.00
So far in May I’ve spent $3.00
In April I Spent $18.46.
In March I Spent $42.44.
In February I Spent $32.52
In January I Spent $84.33
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
Apparently my neighborhood has a big yard sale once a year in July in one of the common areas. So over the next two months I’ll be going through all the drawers and storage closets and gathering stuff to get rid of. Like that tambourine I bought two years ago for a dollar on Anderson island.
10. Read 1 book a week. – My goal is to read 52 books this year
Over the past two weeks I’ve read Almost Amish and The Best Advice I Ever Got. I really, really, really liked Almost Amish. And The Best Advice I ever got was probably a 3 out of 5 stars for me. Some of the stories were interesting, and others, not so much.
11. Slow Down.
I haven’t done much rug hooking lately because HELLO… I’m getting a fence which means I’ll be spending almost all my time {happily} outside again in the fresh air gardening like a woman who hasn’t been able to go outside in 9 months.
12. Canning
I have thoroughly scoped out the neighborhood and have come to the conclusion that there are no blackberry bushes ANYWHERE. BOOOO! I did however find a 1 gallon sack of blueberries in my freezer and plan to whip up a batch of homemade blackberry jam later today though.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

just reading the “Almost Amish” book now after seeing it here. Excellent! We are in the process of purging (BIG rummage sale next week!), and hope to sell this house and downsize considerably in the next year or two. Garden season is just around the corner, but my seedlings are started, and I think next week I can plant beans & peas….Yay!! Lynne from Northern MN 🙂

I love everything about your comment, from the purging to the downsizing to the book choice to the seedlings! Love it all!

Have you ever read Growing Up Amish by Ira Wagler? The author also blogs at http://www.irawagler.com. Very fascinating and transparent memoir of his journey of leaving the Amish church.

I have not, but I will take a look. Thanks Kathy.

Ok Mavis, I just gotta know. Tagro, really? REALLY???? You are a lot like me, and I’m WAAAAY to squeamish to use people poop on my food!! Please explain how and why you’ve chosen to use it. And btw, LOVE the perfectly placed rows of veggies!! I could just squeal!!!

I have used it for 10+ years. It’s safe and AWESOME!!! Best kept secret around these parts.
