I stumbled on to this new device called The Narrative Clip yesterday while browsing NPR. The device basically clips onto your shirt and snaps a picture every 30 seconds throughout your day. According to the Swedish designer, it allows you to capture the simple moments you would never otherwise get, without ever having to personally stop what you are doing and take a picture.
At the end of the day, The Narrative takes the best of the days photos {by using an app} and gives you a daily slideshow. You get to go through and choose which pictures to share, and which pictures not to share. Opponents say that the camera doesn’t really “capture” anything, because the pictures get covered up with the wearer’s hair, or they end up being continual shots of the inside of an office.
I can totally see both sides of this one. It would be kind of cool if you were on a vacation, but super creepy if used in everyday life. I mean really, what if you forgot to take it off in the bathroom? On one hand, it could make for a pretty interesting picture journal of your life–but on the other hand, it could capture parts of your life that are best forgotten {or at least moved past}.
What do you think? Cool or totally over the top?

This reminds me of the book The Circle by Dave Eggers. It is disturbing. On one hand I get it, but on the other I don’t. I’ll stick to my regular camera.

I feel the same….can see both sides to owning one… Be good to have on if working in the public…./or just out in public……if mugged/robbed etc…might be enough there to catch the bad person/or persons…..then on the other side….private things you wouldnt want seen….but reallly think if out and about …..or even in your home ….cant be a life saver for later on…I can see good/bad in this one.

I imagine you could catch some cool pix of things you simply don’t see anymore. But then you might also catch a shot of the bank robber during his escape, and he might not be too happy about that.

I don’t think anyone’s life is interesting enough to need shots every 30 seconds! Anyone who thinks theirs merits it? Well, they are probably full of themselves! Next thing we will be tortured with links to what they do everyday, ala Twitter!

It would be cool to put on a baby who is crawling, or even beginning to walk. Or maybe on the dog. What fun movies could be made that way!!

I wouldn’t wear this every day, but there are definitely times I would like pictures but don’t want to stop experiencing what I’m doing to take them. This would be great for those times. As with all technology, it’s a tool and would just need to be used wisely.

I can see this being more fun at, say, a wedding than the toss-away cameras on the tables. But at $279 a pop, that clip better be plenty strong! I wonder how the focus is achieved and whether at the literal end of the day, any of the photos are worth keeping. I’d like to put one in the chicken run…above pecking level!

I’m an avid photographer with my iPhone and can see using the narrative clip in addition to my phone but ONLY on vacation somewhere cool. Probably somewhere I will never get to be again so it would be nice to have even more moments captured to remember it by. But everyday life seems pointless unless you are involved in an accident of crime scene?

I’d like to put that clip on my dog!

I’d like to put it on my cat because I think he might be a neighborhood bully and I’d like to know why he keeps going under the shed – what is under there?
