Yesterday, I took The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and Monkey Boy to try out the new zip line course, “Zip Wild” at Northwest Trek. The Girl is afraid of heights, and I thought this would be a great way to overcome them.
I don’t know about you, but I think dangling form 60 feet in the air is pretty sweet. I mean, you’ve got a safety harness on for Pete’s sake, how dangerous can it be?
This was the third time I had done a zip line, but it was the first time the kids had done one. Monkey Boy was pretty pumped about it, but The Girl was a little more apprehensive.
The original plan was to have Monkey Boy wear the Go Pro Cam but in the end I got stuck with wore it. Which is pretty rad because you can’t exactly wear a head cam AND glasses at the same time. So I quickly had to decide between glasses or Go Pro.
Here is a totally boring video.
The whole course took about 1 hour to complete, and the kids and I had a blast. No one fell, threw up, or broke any bones. I’d say it was a succes, wouldn’t you?
Oh, and I almost forgot. We also saw a pair of bald eagles.
Peace Out Girl Scouts. Life is short. So get out there and have some fun!

I’m a little surprised they left you alone up there to rig the zip line by yourself. I’d want someone to double check my handiwork before I took the plunge. I’ve zip lined up here in southeast alaska and it’s a blast — but you can bet your sweet patootie that I wouldn’t have done it if someone wasn’t checking my gear at the start of each section. 🙂

We just took a trip there a couple weeks ago! Wish they had had the zip line when we were there. I’d been wanting to visit Northwest Trek for a couple years- and we finally took the drive over- it’s a fabulous place! I too wouldn’t want to rig that zip line by myself… seems kinda strange.

I’ve been wanting to zip line forever too! There is a place in Oregon, just need to convince the others to go. I don’t think I would like the walking across those ‘bridges’ those … my fear of falling would paralyze my knees.

I thought the video was great. I have never zip-lined and this looks like a great starting place. I have a fear of heights that is increasing in intensity as I get older…time to try it now before my fear paralyzes me.
