Last Friday while I was running errands I stopped a few garage sales hoping to find some treasures. A few of the things on my wish list were a coffee table, end table, night stand, a fire pit and of course, any and everything garden related.
Well would you believe at my first stop I found a fire pit. In someones “FREE” pile. Oh yes I did!!! Sure, it’s a little on the worn side, but I’m thinking with a little elbow grease I can shine it up and get a few more seasons out of it.
Garage sale stops 2 and 3 were total duds… but on my fourth stop of the day I hit the jackpot. A lady had just sold her house and was getting rid of a bunch of furniture and clothing. Nothing was priced {which always makes me a little nervous to ask about prices} but when I inquired about the Dansko shoes she was selling and she replied “Oh, how about $5 a pair” I nearly fainted. Especially when she told me the ones with the purple flowers were brand spankin’ new. So I swooped up the red ones for myself and the purple Dansko’s for The Girl at $5 a pop.
I also scored a long black Sundance skirt and an Ambercrombie blue plaid shirt for $2.50 a piece. And in case you are wondering, YES, this is the only skirt I have hanging in my closet. 😉 In fact I can’t even remember when I last owned a skirt but for $2.50, hot dang, I couldn’t pass it up.
And last but not least, I was also able to snag a very well made pine night stand for $20.00. I plan to paint it white and stick it in the guest room later this summer.
How about YOU? Have you picked up anything good at a garage sale lately?

Rustoleum makes some pretty rocking colors for outdoor/already rusty items. That fire pit would look great with a couple coats of spray paint!

They also have a high heat one made for BBQ’s and the like that I bet would work on this.

I also stopped at a yard sale this past Saturday on my way to pick strawberries even though I only had money for the strawberries (just had to stop) saw two unopened containers of rope lights for the deck she told me bring me a quart of strawberries and they are ours. I returned with an over flowing quart of berries and picked up the two boxes of lights!

At least from the picture the fire pit looks good, at least to me. I mean your just going to burn wood again in it so I don’t see much point in spending a lot of time and money re-doing it. The skirt is your favorite color, you will have to post pics of you modeling it!!. And that night stand is a great bargain.

Hi Mavis, you can get ” High Heat ” spray paint for BBQ and Stoves, would make your pit marvellous:)

Yes! Just take a wire brush and some steel wool to it, then high temperature paint. We’ve been maintaining our fire pit and chiminea like this for MANY years! It’s amazing how much wear you can get out of things when you maintain them!
I’ve gone to 3 garage sales in my almost 50 yrs, all duds. Can’t believe what people will sell! Or try to. I saw the spine of a 3 ring binder someone was trying to sell!! I guess someone could turn it into something, I just couldn’t believe it!
You scored some great stuff for some awesome prices!

Since I am moving soon, I have been avoiding yard sales, but have started a list of things to look for once we get to the new house.

On my way home from the Tues. $1 movie seeing Cinderella I hit 3 Goodwills. BTW Cinderella has 2 probably 3 prominent Downton Abby Stars. At 1st 1 I found an American Girl doll, and a set of Costco Kirkland 540 thread count Supima sheets, my favorite. At GW #2 i found a purple set of Kirkland Supima sheets 540 thread count. At GW #3 (my local Crack House near my home) I found 2 splendid carved Waterford crystal brandy snifters. In the alst 6 weeks I also found a cherry red 6 qt Le Creuset cast iron pot no chips just needed cleaning. Also found a brand new red 6 qt electric pressure cooker.

Oh yea, DANSKO RUBY SLIPPERS….click click click. Good luck on your 30 day journey. Just make a list of what you will make and eat for the 4th of July weeklong celebration, otherwise they can put that black skirt on you in your coffin.
