Yesterday morning the Girl and I stopped by the Goodwill to take a quick peek. As soon as I saw this enamelware stock pot for $5 I snatched it up as quick as could. Even though they sell enamelware stock pots on Amazon, the red and white ones can be hard to find. Plus, the red and white enamelware stock pot totally matches a big red and white enamelware basin I picked earlier this summer at a garage sale.
I think I am officially collecting red and white enamelware now. 😉 Isn’t funny how that happens?
While we were out on the Seattle Chicken Coop and Urban Farm Tour we drove by a garage sale and had to back the car up. The Girl found a Mary Poppins DVD and I picked up a vintage berry Masher {$5}, 4 New Wooden Spoons {1} and Sipper Jar {$0.25} for a grand total of $6.25. I found the same berry masher/press on Amazon for $29 so I think I got a pretty good deal!
Of course when I brought it all home the HH said it was all junk. Ha! This isn’t junk, it’s vintage! 😉
What do you think?
Trash, or treasure? Would you have bought all these vintage finds for $13.25, or walked passed them?

I would have bought a few of the items! 🙂 If the potato masher had a wooden handle I’d have got it – but skipped otherwise (I love wooden handled stuff!). I probably wouldn’t have got the enamelware – but it’s only because I have none, and I just don’t need to collect anything else – it sure is cute though! The berry masher & Spoons? Absolutely!! 🙂
You did great!!! 🙂

Mavis, the rule of thumb in collecting is two or more items is a collection! I love to find interesting things I can use….that is my aim, to use the things I buy at flea markets, et al. I think you did great, enjoy using them!

I love garage sale and goodwill finds, especially vintage ones! One note of caution, your berry masher is probably aluminium. The ones on amazon are probably stainless. There are some concerns that aluminium leaches into acid foods ( like berries) and this can have detrimental health effects. Totally a personal decision whether to use aluminium with acidic foods, just like all diet decisions.

Great score on the berry masher! I have two of them (I have always known them as food mills) and I use them to make applesauce. They make it SUPER easy. I just have to wash and quarter the apples, simmer them in a little water until soft and press them through the food mill. That’s it! No peeling or coring required. The food mill removes all undesirable pieces and you get to use every last bit of apple, plus, since the peels are cooked with the apples the sauce takes on a lovely pink color (if the apples you’re using have red or pink skin that is).

I would have wanted the masher, but probably not enough to pay even $5.00! I wouldn’t have wanted the wooden spoons unless they were in a bag, proving to me they are new! I don’t need the other things so would pass on them.

I definitely would have bought all of it – great finds!!!

I love going to Garage Sales.. although ..I don’t have a car so it is kinda hard for me to do this right now. I have a friend, she Hates going to them.. saying she hates going through all their stuff.. Not any different than when you go to a Thrift Shop I say…… geezzz…. So until I find someone who also LOVES to go to Garage Sales.. I will just find great deals at Thrift Shops…

When my in-laws passed away, the only thing I asked for from their estate was my MIL’s potato masher. I love that old thing! Looks just like yours!

I had to search for quite a while to find new potato masher, so I think you did great finding a vintage model. They matching enamel wear is super cute as well. Enjoy using them!
Lisa says
Definitely all great finds! Yay for you!

I have the same berry masher/food mill. It was my Gma’s and I love it for that reason alone. I think you did great and prices were good too.

The berry masher actually looks like an old potato ricer I used to have. I loved that old thing. Can’t remember what happened to it. Good for straining all kinds of things. Looks like you made a haul for very little money. The main thing is that you enjoy them as you use them. I love enamel ware also. Really cool! Men think everything is junk, unless it’s tools.
Carol says
Shell, you are right about men!
Mindy says
Um, yeah, I would have been all over the enamelwear.
Lana says
All treasure!
