One of the most frequently asked questions I get is about the meat I feed my family. How do I get cheap meat? Where do I purchase my meat? Am I picky about the quality? In the past I’ve often bartered with neighbors for high quality meat, purchased meat in bulk on sale or was lucky enough to get some meat from the HH’s work. But lately I’ve been pretty loyal to Zaycon Foods.
Zaycon is a company based out of Washington that has kinda taken the country by storm. They bring meat direct from the farm in refrigerated trucks to their customers at wholesale prices. The products are as fresh as if you had your own farm, but without all the chores! And the quality of meat is amazing. I was a little hesitant at first because, with prices that low, I suspected I’d get bottom of the barrel meat. Nope. It was so good! So what’s the catch? Well you have to buy in bulk. As in 40lbs at a time!
That took a little getting used to, but I’ve actually really liked that. I can devote an entire afternoon to bagging, cooking and freezing all that meat, and just get it out of the way. I also make a ton of freezer meals out of it, so it really saves me so much time in the long run. Plus I love having a freezer stocked full of high quality meat!
Zaycon has upcoming chicken events all over the country. Check out if you live near one HERE. Trust me you won’t regret it!
I used my last order of Zaycon chicken to make these delicious Spicy Thai Chicken Kabobs. Soo good!

Sounds great! Is it organic meat?
Lisa says
Jen, it is not organic but it is all natural with no hormones or additives. If you check out the link that Mavis posted, you will see the option to read about their chicken and all the details with an FAQ.

I just picked my ground beef today in Virginia Beach. It was so easy. The beef looks great. Already browned 10 lbs of it and put into 1 lb freezer bags and divided the rest of it up also. Am looking forward to the chicken pick up in October.

OH.. Darn.. I just registered with this company because another person I follow uses it also She lives in Reno,NV. She got 40 pounds of Hamburger Meat.. And showed how she wrapped it up. I only wish I had a bigger freezer and I would do this. I actually never knew you had to buy 40 pounds.

40 lbs of chicken doesn’t actually end up being as much as you might think. In my head I pictured it as being much more than it was. Maybe you can find someone to split a case with? We did that with my parents. They went through theirs in about 2-3 months and the hubby and I still have a bunch in the freezer. I think my parents are going to buy a whole case for themselves this time since they used it so quickly.

So, it does seem like a lot of quantity. Without having to register first, I’m curious about pricing…?? thanks..

I LOVE Zaycon. I have ordered the chicken breast, bacon, bacon wrapped pork loin steaks, hamburger and strawberries and peaches (picked those up today!) and have always been happy with what we received. The quality is fantastic and I LOVE having all of it in the freezer to use whenever we need to. I think I overdid it with the hamburger and probably could have split a case with my parents or brother since it’s just me and my hubby. I made about 20 lbs of it into freezer meals and seasoned hamburger patties (I used some tastefully simple products and recipes for those and so far they are GREAT) and still have 20 lbs just frozen for use in whatever we want. My hubby is deployed right now or we would probably have ordered the milk as well. I don’t drink nearly as much milk as he does. I hear they may also offer cheese in the future and I can’t wait to see their prices if they do!

Thanks again Mavis for sharing this. We are all signed up, and just waiting for October to hurry up and get here. I went to get chicken the other day, now my 6 pack to 5 pack to 4 pack is now only 3 breasts to a pack. Good Grief!!!!!!!!!! I walked out totally disgusted.

I’ve never had Zaycon meat, but farm fresh chicken is the BEST! Everyone talks about how great fresh beef is. Yea it’s better than from the supermarket but the difference isn’t nearly the same as with chicken. I now understand why hubs refused to eat anything other than farm chicken. The first time we got our chickens back from the butcher he insisted on frying one up that night (it was after 9pm). I’ll never forget that first bite.

And non-homogenized whole milk? I wish that was available near me! Thanks for referring us to Zaycon. I will make an order sometime, for sure.

Actually, you want to look carefully at that FAQ on the page. It isn’t actually as clear as you might think and I wish they would go a little farther to prove that they aren’t just using words that are technically correct while giving a false impression.
For example, from their FAQ:
“The beef cattle have a grass diet which is supplemented by grain after they reach approximately 700 pounds.” – This could still describe what happens at a CAFO. Most cows which go to a CAFO start off on a farm eating grass and then once they reach a certain age/weight, get shoved together standing in their own *@#$ eating mostly grains.
“There are no hormones or antibiotics in the beef and it is 100% grown in the USA.” – The in the USA is great but the no hormones or antibiotics in the beef doesn’t mean that hormones or antibiotics weren’t fed or injected into the cattle which is a whole other can of worms.
“There are no chemicals, additives or water added to meat during processing.” – Doesn’t mean that chemicals weren’t used while the cattle were alive (Pre-processing).
I hope they are not just skirting the truth and that it is really what so many folks seem to think it might be. For now, the lack of clarity scares me too much to trust it. I am trying to get away from all that.

Good point. I called customer service. They stated the meats are not organic and the company could not guarantee they would be GMO-free.

don’t forget that that chicken from the super market is injected with solution or broth. 3.99 a lb chicken means up to 15or20% broth. that is some expensive salt water…..
Missy says
Mavis, don’t you pretty much get your chicken free because of people putting your name on their order that you recommended them? I got a few dollars off of mine for recommending friends, but with your blog you must really rack up the dollars. Great thing for people to know.
