One Hundred Dollars a Month

Yesterday Mrs. HB and I hung out together for what may have been the last time before my family heads off to the East Coast. I do have a dental appointment next week so we may be able to squeeze in one more walk though… we’ll see.

Check out those beautiful trees in front of our old house!!! Aren’t they HUGE? The Girl and I pulled up 3 teeny tiny seedlings from the back woods the first summer we lived in the old neighborhood and I remember the HH being totally embarrassed that I planted them in front of the property. He told me they were too small and out of place with the nice full-grown trees everyone else had in their front yards.

But I refused to pull them up… and just look at them 11 years later. I think they turned out just fine. And hey, I saved a few bucks as well. 😉 It was nice to walk by our old house and see how well the people who bought it from us have been taking care of the place. The wisteria I planted alongside the arbors is still there and the boxwood border we planted has filled in nicely. Chino the Handyman {who still lives in the neighborhood and is friends with the people who live there} said they love the garden and berry patches we installed all those years ago and that their kids love playing in the big backyard. And you know what? That makes my heart happy.

These two. A bunch of beggars I tell you. They’ll do anything for treats.

After we took the dogs on a long walk {to tire them out} Mrs. HB and I headed off on our big adventure. Which, being the movers and shakers that we are, of course included a trip to the dollar store.

Dollar stores are fascinating to me. It’s the kind of place that maybe when you walk in the door you have one or two things on your list… But you always seem to walk out with a few bags full of things you didn’t know you needed until you realized what a freaking bargain they were. Plus they sell the best candy ever… Mary Jane’s.

And yes, for all you non scarf wearing people {like me} out there…. food particles did get in her scarf! 🙂 🙂 🙂 LOVE YA Mrs. HB!!!! But I’m sorry, but I will never be a scarf person. I just can’t do it. There are just too many things that could go wrong with wearing them. Mainly, the scarf could get caught on something and you could get choked to death by the scarf.

And then there are all those questions I have:

• How often does it fall off your person and fall onto the ground/into the mud?
• How do you know what a reasonable amount of times is to wrap it around your neck?
• Doesn’t the scarf chafe your neck {the thinner ones especially}?
• If your neck is cold, why not just wear a turtleneck instead?
• Do people have to carry around a bottle of Static Cling at all times because the scarf creates static electricity?

I don’t know. The whole scarf thing… it’s just too stressful for me. I can’t do it.

Mrs. HB. I’m going to miss her. Even if all we really ever did was walk, talk and make each other crazy. Good friends {who will put up with all your idiosyncrasies} are hard to find.
