I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. With the help of coupons, gardening and bartering I am able to squeeze the most out of our grocery budget and still manage to have a little fun along the way.

Red Alert! Mystic Pizza is available to watch this month if you have Amazon Prime. Guess what we’re watching tonight? 😉 I can’t remember the last time I saw this movie but The Girl and I have actually been to the town of Mystic, Connecticut twice. The first time we were there we ate at Mystic Pizza, and the second time we stopped by on St. Patrick’s Day {which is so much fun in the Northeast by the way} and grabbed a few pastries at Sift Bake Shop.

They just don’t make movies like they used to. And Mystic Pizza, is a must see classic!

I think it’s pretty well documented here on the blog that I am a total fashion Diva. But if you could help me to understand who this new grey sweater appeals to or WHY ON EARTH someone would cough up their hard earned money for it… I’d really like to hear your opinion. Not only are there holes in the shoulders {I will never understand this particular fashion trend} but the entire bottom of the sweater looks like it was gnawed off by rats.

When I was a kid, walking around with holes in your jeans was frowned upon. And really, the only people you’d see with torn jeans were little kids {and those holes were well earned} or someone who was doing some heavy duty yard work or something who didn’t want to damage their good clothes.

Sure I’m getting older, but I see women my age ALL THE TIME who PAID for jeans with holes {and in some cases LOTS of holes} walking around town in them. I don’t get it. Do you?

The House is Probably Haunted

Although my husband and I both adore old homes {we’re talking Colonial Williamsburg 1600-1800’s era} the man is afraid of ghosts. Seriously. Like every single time I’d show him an old home he was like, WOW, that is so cool… did you see the detail work in the …. How many people do you think died in that house? We can’t buy that house.  Do you know how many people, and horses are probably buried in the backyard? It’s got to be haunted. We can’t buy it. You know in New England they can’t bury people in the ground because it’s frozen all winter and so they have to store the bodies in the basement.

Maybe You Know the Answer, Because I Sure Don’t

Why do people wait in line at the post office to specifically buy stamps? Like, as in get dressed, get in the car, drive to the post office, wait in line, and then buy a sheet of 20 stamps. Don’t they know they can buy stamps at the grocery store?

If you happen to own an old handwoven garden trolley, HANG ON TO IT. I spotted this one at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show and they were asking $250 for it. HOLY CANOLIES!

After I get the kitchen cleaned up this morning I plan on spending all day getting my rug hooking stuff packed up {the stuff I won’t be using over the next 40 days, anyway} and then work on finishing up those desks I’ve been stripping.

My Favorite Garden Goodies from the 2018 Northwest Flower and Garden Show

Yesterday that sweet husband of mine drove me up to Seattle for the 2018 Northwest Flower and Garden Show. And let me tell you Bob, the displays did not disappoint.

Honestly though, I think my husband is regretting taking me to the show because his summer project list now has about 5 more “to do” items on it. And building a fire pit is one of them. Doesn’t this look amazing? And so easy to build…. I mean c’mon, how hard can it be to group a bunch of bricks into a square? I bet it will only take him an hour or so to level the area and stack the stones. Easy peasy, right?

Recreating a Bob Bowlings garden shed or chicken coop though, that could take a while.

I spotted these glass garden plates last year at the garden show and I was happy to see them back again this year. They were a BIG HIT and drew a huge crowd. I also think the night stands and buffet’s they used as a base to hold the garden art was pretty clever.

This re-purposed shipping container was my husband’s favorite display.

I was more into the elevated patio area and globe lights. At our new place we will have a small back courtyard that I think would look marvelous with a few strings of patio lights. But I don’t think there is an electrical outlet in that spot so maybe erecting some poles {and building a picnic table} out in the back garden area would be a better idea? Maybe hiding an extension cord in a piece of plastic pipe just under the grass would work. See what I mean about those summer projects adding up? Attending garden shows can be dangerous!

And then there were these Pot Incorporated Leo Wall Planters. Talk about seriously cool looking. The prices on these babies range from $85 to $165.

Gardening season… It’s just around the corner. And I AM SO EXCITED about it!.
