I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. With the help of coupons, gardening and bartering I am able to squeeze the most out of our grocery budget and still manage to have a little fun along the way.

Wooo Hooo! I’m half way finished with my One Hundred Dollars A Month Challenge… I can’t believe it’s already been 6 months. 🙂 Last week I did 4 double coupon transactions and paid $1.12 for everything you see above. I used .55/1 Vitamin Water coupons and doubled them (found them on an in store tear pad) and $1.00 off ANY Weber seasoning PLUS a buy 2 Weber seasonings and get $1.00 off meat coupons (I had 3 sets so I did 3 transactions). I like using the cheap cuts of meat for stir fry and can usually find packages in the $2.25- $2.75 range. Total spent $1.21. Not.To.Shabby.
Have you tried the new Golden Oreo’s? Everyone under this roof thinks they’re 10x better than the original… Yuuu Hummmm! I used one of my FREE Milk catalinas from the previous week and Oreo’s were on sale for $1.99 each so I used a “Buy 1 gallon of milk and save $1.00 off Nabisco cookies” coupon + double. FREE
I used a $5 catalina coupon I scored the previous week and bought 2 Vitamin waters (.55/1 tear pad +doubler) humus $3.99 ($1/1 + a doubler) 3 lbs of peaches, 1 red pepper and a lemon all for .55 after coupons, catalinas and doubles. Yay!
Using a $3 catalina from last week I only had to pay .03 oop for the crappy bread/hot dog buns and the Pita Chips.
A rather perky 30-year-old lady at Safeway was passing out $2.00 off coupons for Magnum ice cream bars so I picked up a box for only .49. Sadly the HH & Monkey Boy scarfed them down before the Girl and I got to try one. Boooo!
It was the Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird’s turn to cook dinner on Friday night and this is what she purchased. $5.75
Let’s just say her cooking repertoire has greatly improved since she was 3 years old and serving us uncooked rice and banana slices…
On Saturday evening I went into Costco for socks… and came out with 24 hot dog buns, and 2 pairs of shorts… How does that happen anyway? I seriously need to cancel my membership to that place. $2.89 for the hot dog buns.
Backyard fresh strawberries FREE
More FREE strawberries… I’m pretty certain the chipmunks/squirrels are dead. Because if they were alive… I’d have no berries. Way to go HH!
FREE Snow Peas from the backyard…
And Monkey Boy spent $2 on a Diet Coke at the races.
Total Spent This Week $12.43
Total Spent Year To Date $ 66575
So that’s it… Did you stay on budget this week… or did you spend boo koo bucks on party food for the 4th?

The Boys made their annual pilgrimage to the Vintage Car Races yesterday… Monkey Boy and the Handsome Husband have been going ever since the boy monkey was in a stroller and could wear ear protection. It’s their thing… The Girl and I however stayed home and laid out on the back lawn and worked on our tans.
They even spotted Dale at one of the VIP tents… They were gone over 5 hours and took over 400 photos… I’d say they had a good time. 🙂

After a lazy morning of sleeping in until 7 am (a true luxury around here) We all made our own breakfast… Well actually I made the HH’s.
Lucky Charms for Monkey Boy… Fresh berries for the Girl…
And a fried egg, bacon, tomato sandwich for the Handsome Husband.
Now we just need to figure out how to spend the rest of the day…
