I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. With the help of coupons, gardening and bartering I am able to squeeze the most out of our grocery budget and still manage to have a little fun along the way.

Yep… that’s me… Mavis…
Living the good life… cardboard…tape…and chickens…
Yee Haw!
In other news…
Lucy & Goosey are doing much better…
Apparently living in a semi-private suite (rubbermaid tote) complete with their very own heat lamp, food and water trays has done those two a world of wonders..

Sunday afternoon was lovely… it was such a nice day in fact I had told The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird and her bff Little Miss Smarty Pants to bring the baby chicks outside for a little frolic in the grass. The weather was perfect.
This was the baby chicks 3rd outing in as many days… in the two previous days the chicks spent about 1/2 an hour outside under close supervision… just to make sure they wouldn’t wander off or anything… However… this time I had the girls move the Eglu over to the grass so the baby chicks could spend a few hours outside… all safe and secure within the confines of the Eglu run…
About 2 hours later the HH and I were sitting in our room reading with the windows open and all the sudden we heard Peep…PEEP…PEEP!!!!
We both jumped up…. and ran to the window…
and Holy Freakin Scare Your Pants Off…
There was a falcon sideways on the outside of the Eglu with a baby chick in it’s talons/claws(?)
And so now we just wait… and hope they’ll be okay.

Okay… Here’s what else I bought this week…
Walmart $7.42
I came across more of those money making Similac coupons… which netted me some pretty sweet overage which I then applied to the above items one container of baby formula at a time. Plus I was able to pick up a board game for the Toy’s For Tot’s Toy drive this winter for only .84 cents along with a “Try Me Free” box of Kellogg’s cereal and 4 free toothbrushes using the $2.00 Oral B coupon from the 4/3 PG insert.
Safeway $7.01
I was able to pick up 5 bags of salad st Safeway for only .50 cents a bag with coupons, FREE beef Jerky from an online game on April Fools Day but I also paid FULL PRICE for 5 apples and a bag of caramel’s… The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird got her braces taken off and wanted carameled apples for dessert… How could I say no to that?
Albertsons $8.79
Double Coupons vs Mavis = Awesomeness
+ a Catalina for 1 FREE case of Water
Rite Aid .79 cents
My total before coupons was $15.79
I used 2 $2 Up Rewards
