I’ll be real honest here…. I’m not a Walmart shopper…

It’s kinda scary there… I almost start to break out into hives just thinking about it…In fact I can’t even remember the last time I was there… But anyway… I had read online a few weeks ago that Walmart had changed it’s coupon policy… basically… they now allow overage… meaning if something costs $1 and you have a $2 off coupon for it… you can apply the $1 “overage” to other items in your shopping basket… It sounded to good to be true… But I finally worked up the courage… and stopped by to see if the rumors were true…

When I pulled into the parking lot… the car to the left of me had a bottle of pills (with the person’s name on it) on the passenger seat… Oh… and the driver’s side door was open for no apparent reason….creepy… It kinda felt like a sting operation… like cops were hiding in the bushes ready to arrest someone…. it was weird.

Then on the car to my right… was this fine bumper sticker…What kinda of person would put that on their car?I would of gladly taken a photo of the man in white stretch pants and a woman’s tank top had I not thought I’d get assaulted for it… Like I said… Walmart scares me….I’m sure there are all kinds of lovely people who shop there… but for some reason (maybe it’s the time of day? Full moon?) I attract the weirdo’s.

But LOOK!!!!!!Holy Crackers!Gain Dryer Sheets for only $1.87…. and a $3 off coupon…. (2/13 Red Plum)

Cha Ching!!!!

And don’t worry…
I left plenty on the shelf…

I quickly figured out… with all my coupon overage… I’d have a whopping $21.04 to spend!!!Keep in mind with that particular Gain Coupon… you can only use 4 Gain coupons per transaction… I had 22 coupons… So I had to collect my free overage items between 6 transactions.

But before I placed my loot on the counter… I asked the cashier… “Do you like Coupons… Because I have a lot of coupons”… she was like… I LOVE COUPONS!!!!Sweet!

I spent a whopping .71 cents
(I’ll show you what I bought tomorrow)

But for now…
I’m just happy my laundry cupboard is stocked with enough dryer sheets
for the next 2 years…

Maybe this Walmart thing is worth looking into….

I’m beginning to think my chickens are overweight…
They’re looking rather plump these days…

Or maybe it’s because I’d really like to see the freezer stocked with chicken…
Hmmm….

Well…
I think they’re safe… for now…

I’d rather have farm (okay suburbia) fresh eggs any day of the week than a chicken bbq…

4 chickens = 10 eggs in 3 days…
Not bad ladies…. not bad…

In other home and garden news….

I planted the first round of beets…

I like to plant them about a month apart…

Right up until August….

Since we have eggs, english muffins and canadian bacon in the refrigerator… I’m thinking eggs benedict for Sunday breakfast is in order… topped with garden fresh chives of course…
Does anyone have a good recipe for hollandaise sauce?

I was getting a little nervous about the peas I planted a few weeks ago… none of them have poked through the soil yet… so I dug one up… Yeah… it’s alive!

And since they’re starting to spout (and not rotting like I feared) I decided it was time to go ahead and plant round 2 of the peas… this time Snow Peas… (a gift from my sister)… I heart snow peas… they’re perfect in stir fry… (and so is chicken for that matter)…

Now all I have to do is wait…
Spring is here people…. spring is finally here…

This week started off on a ridiculously expensive note…

My neighbor Girly Girl and I were to bring dinner and dessert to our neighbors… who just had twins. I was in charge of the dessert. At first I was going to bake a pie… with some FREE blackberries I had picked over the summer… but then I thought… Mavis STOP BEING SO CHEAP! If you had just had a baby the last thing you’d want to eat was an entire pie… or cake for that matter…

So I decided to bring chocolate dipped strawberries and brownie bites instead.

Since they have 2 younger children I decided to add a few gummy frogs…
I figured this was the perfect sized dessert…

Not too much and no left overs… LOVELY!

And the Handsome Husband was thrilled he received some dessert too…

And The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird… well… she ran off with the other 2lbs of berries and they were never to be seen again… typical.

Changing gears…

And with Double Coupons…
I was able to score all this for only $11.71
18 boxes of cereal
3 gallons of Milk
3 dozen mini bagels
1 loaf of bread
7 iced coffees
1 Gatorade
31 bags of frozen veggies
1 hot sauce
1 pkg. frozen burritos
3 boxes Texas toast
1/2lb butter
4 bags of pretzels
4 boxes of fudge sticks
7 bananas
1 cantaloupe melon
12 apples
3 pears
4 oranges
36 packs of gum…

I also picked up some more FREE money making candy…

I swear if I see another bag of this neon crap I might hurl….

But… by putting the candy in my cart I was able to score $11 in Catalina coupons…
Which I then (with even MORE COUPONS)…

was able to pick up all this for .63 cents

*** FYI: If you seriously think I am keeping all of that candy… you’re on crack… I kept 1 bag of each (from last week) and donated 20bags to my friend “The Mad Scientist’s” classroom… she said she could use the jelly beans for some sort of DNA mapping project… I sent another dozen bags in with the Handsome Husband to give to his peeps at work… and that STILL left me with another 20 bags or so… I plan on donating the rest to the Food Bank (think Easter Basket Candy) via the Boy Scouts when they go “Scouting for Food”… I just hope the kid who comes to pick up all the food I’ve been collecting doesn’t have a heart attack… and hopefully his parents drive a truck…

Red Peppers $3.00 (Holy Crap Mavis… that’s a bit pricey)

Hot Sauce and Banana’s… .31cents

Hot Sauce and Bananas… .72 cents

I simply split up my transactions… On the first one I bought $28+ worth of hot sauce and $3.31 worth of bananas and used a $3 off $30 coupon… In the second transaction I bought $40+ worth of hot sauce and $4.72 worth of bananas and used a $4 off $40 coupon.

And that my friends… is what I bought last week…

I spent a grand total of $26.34

(I withdrew $3.27 from Mr. Piggy)

Freezer check…

Usually by this time of year we have unplugged one of the two freezers…

And I thought for sure with only spending $100 a month on food…

We would have cleared one out by now…

But apparently not…

With the exception of a few things… like cool whip and

2 packages of bratwurst…

Everything still looks good…

I hadn’t thought about it before… but one thing I noticed while going through the freezers… was we’re eating a lot less meat lately than in years past…
Mostly because meat is rather tricky to work into a small grocery budget…
But even so… I think we still have plenty of food…

For instance we still have about 30 bags of FREE cheese we (I) need to use up…
(I’m thinking some homemade mac and cheese might be in our near future)

And 2 cases of FREE french fries the Handsome Husband brought home one day…

And with the addition of 4 (we ate 1) whole chickens…

All is well in coupon land…

When you stop and think about it…it’s kinda crazy…
That over 1/2 the stuff in there…
was FREE…
