Peppermint bark makes the perfect neighbor gifts. It is cost effective, looks festive on a plate, and tastes awesome. What more could you ask for?
Ingredients
1 Bag white baking chips
1 Bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
6 Candy canes
Directions
Line a baking sheet with or parchment paper. Unwrap candy canes and put them in a plastic ziploc bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the candy cane into small pieces. Separate the smaller/finer pieces of candy cane from the larger pieces into two separate bowls and set them aside.
Put the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 15 second increments, stirring in between, until chips are melted. Spread the chocolate mixture out onto the parchment paper and sprinkle with fine candy cane pieces.
Repeat the melting process with the white baking chips.
Spread the mixture out onto the parchment paper. Sprinkle the bowl of larger candy canes over the top and gently press them in. Chill in the freezer until firm {about 15 minutes}. Break into pieces and you’re done.

Hi Mavis, This sounds really nice but……. What are white baking chips???
Mavis Butterfield says
White chocolate chips. 🙂 You’ll find them right next to the chocolate chips in the baking section.

My daughter and I just made this – super easy! I have big plans to get this to the neighbors but the boys are hovering so it’s not looking promising 😉

These are now on my list to make!

Big candy canes or little candy canes?
Love your blog, Mavis!
Mavis Butterfield says
Hi Amy, I used big candy canes. 🙂

made these last week but I think recipe works better if you chill the chocolate layer before spreading the white layer. That may have been in the instructions somewhere that I missed! I had an “interesting” time spreading the white without messing up the chocolate! But still turned out very yummy. Plus, you really need to watch the bowl when melting the white chips…they melt waaaay faster than the chocolate and I almost burned mine beyond use…looked in the microwave and couldn’t figure out what that black lump was in the bowl!! Whoops!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this super easy recipe! Two things I want to try with this, in order to get the bark into Christmas shapes. (I know, bark is supposed to be broken up, but hey, why not be a little unorthodox?)
Idea 1: Make the bark inside Christmas cookie cutter shapes directly (use open cookie cutters, silicone molds, etc.)
Idea 2: Make the bark as described in a flat sheet, then warm cookie cutters (dip in warm/hot water) and “cut” the bark into cookie cutter shapes. (Then let your family eat the weird shaped pieces that are left over!)

I live in Canada and I use Purdy’s White chocolate instead of baking chips I find the end product to be nicer . My dad loves it .

Hey Mavis! I’m going to try this recipe. I’ve been looking for different treats to put in the tins of cookies we give our neighbors each year. This will work great. Thanks so much.
p.s. Have you ever thought about putting a “print” button on your recipe posts? 🙂
