Man-o-man is this a tasty little recipe. Yesterday while we were at Graceland we stopped and picked up a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich.
Rumor has it this was Elvis’ favorite sandwich, hands down, and that his mother used to grill these up for him. Some people said he’d even eat TWELVE of these sandwiches in ONE sitting. Wowza.
Now there are many variations of this recipe floating around. I did a little digging and found what I think is the closest to the one his Mama used to make.
Ingredients
2 slices of bread {his mother used grilled Hawaiian bread}
1 slice bacon
bacon grease
1/2 banana sliced into thick slices
flour
1 tbsp creamy peanut butter
2 tsp butter
Directions
Fry bacon & remove from pan. Cut banana slices, roll in flour & fry in bacon grease until golden brown. Spread peanut butter evenly on both slices of bread. Place fried bananas on one side of the peanut buttered bread & smash the other peanut buttered side down on top of it, pressing down to secure the sandwich in place. Melt the butter in the same greasy pan. Fry sandwich on both sides until browned. Slice diagonally & try not to have a heart attack after consuming.
