With all the snow falling on the east coast lately I thought I would go ahead and re publish my kid’s favorite recipe for homemade snow cone syrup. It’s super simple to make and a whole lot of fun to eat.
Ingredients
1 packet Kool-Aid
1 cup water
1 cups sugar
Combine the Kool-Aid, sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar and Kool-Aid is dissolved. Remove from heat and cool. Once cool, place the funnel into a squeezy bottle and fill. Squirt flavoring onto fresh clean snow and eat.
Yum!

I’m so glad you included that the snow should be clean. I’m having a hard time explaining that part to my 4 year old, yuck! With all this new snow we may have to give this a try, just hope that the twins don’t start to eat the snow when I’m not watching. Thanks Mavis!

We just came in for lunch and a break from making those fun snow angels and was looking up a recipe for snow ice cream, but alas I don’t have any condensed milk on hand…bummer! I picked up my phone to call my neighbor before getting all dressed up again and saw your post! Perfect timing! Now the big debate will be what flavor we should make the syrup! Happy Snow Day Mavis!
PS. I had to laugh…have you seen the latest cover of the magazine Bloomburg Businessweek? Its photo of Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer and across his picture is a title that reads: No More Mr. Monkey Boy! Funny! 🙂

That is funny.

That looks like fun. I wish we’d have some snow.

I use this recipe in the summer for snow cones. I used my survey points (taking surveys online for gift card points) for Amazon and got the snow cone machine free! It’s a big one that shaves the ice very quickly.
My son made some when we had snow a month or so ago. We don’t usually get any, and we got several feet. Fun for two days, then not fun for two weeks.
Speaking of snow cones for breakfast… when I was growing up my mother would make “ice cream” during the night by mixing milk, sugar, and vanilla into a pie pan, and putting it outside to freeze. We didn’t get a lot of nights cold enough to freeze it, so it was a real treat when we had “ice cream” for breakfast!

Interesting…hmmm. For some reason, it has never occurred to me to make a snow cone with snow…we always make “snow cream” when it snows here in the South. Clean snow (lots), milk, a little sugar and a little vanilla flavoring…delish! I made some for my 11 year old nephew and asked him how is was…he closed his eyes, breathed deeply and said, “Awesome”. Try it some time! I intend to try the snow cone next time.

Wouldn’t you know it? The one week we get snow and I didn’t buy Kool-Aid this shopping trip. My girls definitely want to try this!

hmm you really think snow is safe to eat ? With our countries polution- I’d never give it to children.

haha we don’t get snow in socal so I have to use my ice machine! But kool aid’s a great idea! I usually buy my syrups from http://www.realhawaiianice.com and their flavors are really good, but I’ll def pick up some koolaid the next time I run to the store, thanks!
