Costco Shopping Trip – $22.22 {for the food}
Same story different day. I went into Costco to buy socks and came out with egg rolls, a sack of Pirates Booty and giant baked potatoes and sour cream. You’d think after all these years I’d just walk into that place with a pair of those giant sunglasses older people wear so I couldn’t see out the sides. Tunnel vision. It’s a good thing!
Crappy Snacks for Monkey Boys lunch. {I have NO IDEA what I was thinking buying that applesauce!!}
Zaycon Turkey Event – Free
I had some Zaycon credit so I ordered a 20 pound box of Zaycon Seasoned Turkey Breast Roasts for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and there were 6 roasts!!! We devoured one and popped the other 5 in the freezer for later this fall. I don’t know about you, but turkey and mashed potatoes are my favorite “comfort food” this time of year.
Fresh Corn from Farmer Ted – Free
Farmer Ted gave the HH 2 boxes of the sweetest corn on the planet this past Saturday. I cooked up a few ears for dinner and them froze the rest of the corn to use this winter in my favorite corn chowder recipe.
Homemade Applesauce
We are enjoying a bumper crop this year and there are still a ton of apples to harvest. If you’ve never canned applesauce before it’s super simple and I love that you can adjust the sugar to suit your needs. I used a few Weck canning jars with this first batch because I intend to give those away as gifts and used my regular old canning jars for the rest.
- 4 Quarts
- 14 Pints {I gave one to my neighbor Hulda}
- 4 Quarts Cloudy Apple Cider {I’ll post the recipe later this week}
