Did you know Albertsons is having a gift card promotion now through 11/29/12? For every $100 you spend on specific gift cards {Lowe’s, iTunes, Macy’s, Bass Pro Shops, AMC, Sears, Groupon, Kohls, Regal Cinemas, Chili’s, Applebees} you’ll receive a $20 Albertsons store coupon.
So last night on my way home I swung in and picked up some gift cards to Lowe’s and iTunes. Now since I don’t buy food at Lowe’s or the iTunes store, I don’t count these purchases in my grocery bill. I know I’ll be making purchases in the next 6 months from both of these places, so for me it’s a total no brainer and a win-win deal.
I also received an additional $5 Albertsons store coupon because my store participates in the Preferred Program {basically you get points for every $ you spend BEFORE coupons} and apparently I had enough points, so I got a $5 off coupon.
The only catch with this deal is {technically} you can only use 1 $20 store coupon per day, per transaction. Now sometimes the cashier or store will let you use multiple $20 coupons at once, but I was in a hurry and didn’t want to go get $40 worth of groceries and be turned down. So I gathered $25 worth of groceries in my basket and headed for the checkout lane.
Major Grocery Tip > This time of year other meats like steak, chicken and sausage do not sell as quickly as they normally would, so be sure and look for meat markdowns. All of my packages of meat had $3, or $2 coupons on them so I got a great deal!
Another Major Grocery Tip > Around peak holidays, Albertsons will issue FREE PRODUCT coupons which will spit out at the catalina machines, so be cure and look for those too! I didn’t get any personally on my purchase, but the guy behind me did. As he was grabbing his bags I noticed he didn’t take them so I politely asked if he was going to use them. He said NO, I don’t use coupons, You can have them.
- Free Eggs
- Free Soda
- $1 off a $3 purchase
- $1 off a $6 frozen food purchase.
Ya Buddy, I’ll take your trash!

P.S. Did you pick up any gift cards this time around?

I don’t understand why people wouldn’t even use a coupon for a free product! It’s not that difficult to use and they shouldn’t be embarrassed by it!!

You scored!!!
I needed a bunch of Kohl’s gift cards for a great deal on a Dyson DC40 today ($549.99 retail down to $198 + tax after 15% code, $20 Kohl’s cash I already had, $90 in earned Kohl’s cash, and $18 Ebates rebate), so I wound up with several of the $20 coupons (a few other gift cards for Christmas, too).
So far, I’ve used two of them on stuff I never see coupons for and some baking supplies. I have a freezer full of meat (thanks, Zaycon!) so I’m not sure what I’ll use my other two coupons on. Maybe more baking supplies!

Home Depot is my favorite, but I suppose I can shop at Lowe’s for my next project if it means free food. Happy Thanksgiving LaToya. I am thankful for you. 🙂

We bought the gift cards but one of them was not part of the catalina offer, (they where all hanging together)so it did not print. The manager would not refund us the gift cards so we could re-buy the correct one. I called the Albertsons Corparate and they opened up a complaint for me. We will see if going thru corpate helps

So jealous! We can’t use these coupons on ANY dairy items in Southern California. Stupid law. 🙁
Mavis says
We cannot use the coupons on any LIQUID dairy products. Which is a total bummer of course because I would love some free milk. 🙂 We can still use the coupons on butter though. 🙂
Mavis says
Nice work Tali!

Mary Ann, Mavis is right, I tried using my $5 for liquid creamers and potatoes but it wouldn’t scan (I was unaware)…..it worked for the cheese though.
Mavis, with a teenage son I feel for you in regards to the milk issue…..when my step son moved out at 19 my grocery bill dropped $150/month!
