The nice thing about Whole Foods, ahem, Whole Paycheck, is that they post all these yummy looking recipes on their site. It’s probably to make up for the fact that they charge an arm and a leg for everything, so they throw the recipes in for free.
They’re nice like that. When I saw this pot roast recipe I totally had to try it. I was curious how the cinnamon would change the taste. You definitely can taste it, but it’s not overwhelming and really awesome. My whole fam gobbled it up.
Ingredients
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 1/2 pounds beef chuck roast, trimmed
1 teaspoon salt, divided
1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
2 onions, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, sliced
2 {14 oz} can diced tomatoes, with juice {I used Italian Roasted Tomatoes}
3 cinnamon sticks
Directions
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Rub 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper onto the roast. Place in pan and brown on all sides {should take about 10 minutes}. Place roast in a slow cooker. Cook onions and garlic in the same skillet until soft. Stir in remaining salt and pepper. Pour onion mix around roast in slow cooker. Add tomatoes and cinnamon sticks. Cover and cook 8-10 hours on low or 4-5 hours on high, or until meat is tender. Garnish with parsley and serve.

actually, whole foods market has cheaper organic eggs than my walmart. whole foods has competitive prices when you compare organics to organics and sometimes basics to basics, like they have really good prices on plain walnuts compared to what i find here. also, there’s a sausage that my husband likes (we are 2 hrs from whole foods) that i have to order on amazon. knowing what they sell them for at whole foods makes me cringe at the amazon price. but yes, whole foods does have the biggest markup of grocery stores, in the middle isles. mmm. whole foods. i would kill for some organic honeycriso apples and a bunch of kale that doesn’t look like someone mopped the floor with it (ahem walmart). oh and plain whole milk yogurt. i make mine myself because i can’t find it here. disclaimer: i don’t work for them but i do invest in them.
