The Girl and I took a trip out to Sluys’ Bakery in Poulsbo, Washington over the weekend. If you’re a local or coming to this neck of the woods soon I highly recommend a stop. I’ve been going to Sluys’ bakery for 30+ years {Oh my word I am getting old!}.
I spent practically every summer of my childhood on a boat and Poulsbo was one of the ports we’d pull into during the summer months. After I hosed down the boat {always my job} my parents would let me wander up the dock with a few bucks in hand and I’d go to the bakery.
Poulsbo really is a fun little town to spend the afternoon in. There are all sorts of art galleries and funky shops that line Front street and oodles of restaurants.
But the baked goods at Sluys’ are what keep me coming back year after year.
We all have our favorites:
Mavis: Honey Bran Muffins
HH: Sticky Pecan Rolls
The Girl: Cinnamon rolls
Monkey Boy: Iced donuts
I seriously should have thought that whole muffin top goal of mine through… because bakeries… c’mon! What was I thinking?
Oh. And the bread. YOU MUST get a loaf of their sweet black bread if you go. I told myself it I was getting it to serve with potato soup. Ya. Well, by the time dinner rolled around there was only half of a loaf left. Bread and butter baby. That’s what I’m talking about. 😉
Trust me. Sluys’ bakery in Poulsbo is the bomb diggety. It’s worth the wait. So don’t freak out if there is a line out the door…. it moves quick.

If you find yourself in Baltimore, MD you must visit Vaccaro’s. https://vaccarospastry.com/
The old school Italian pastries of my childhood and the cannoli – wow! They also have amazing gelato. There are a few tables, a waitress, and a full bar so you can really enjoy the place! Lot’s of other bakeries in Baltimore but this one isn’t to be missed.
Loving your adventures….keep doing what you do.

Love love love Sluys! We absolutely cannot go to the Olympic Peninsula without popping in for a snack, no matter what time of day it is. When my twins were little we would get the huge donuts, shaped like a gingerbread boy I think for each of them. They would be sure they had just won the lottery it was so large! Still giggle about that years later.

Last week I had the pleasure of a blueberry danish from Ma Boulangerie in Federal Way next door to Trader Joe’s. It was a tough choice between the danish or one of their chocolate creations.
