Friday Night at the Movies – Manchester by the Sea

Okay, I’ve heard Manchester by the Sea is heavy, but amazing! The story follows, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), after the death of his older brother shockingly leaves him sole guardian of his teenage nephew, Patrick. To care for him, he reluctantly returns to Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fishing village where his working-class family has lived for generations, and a town where he left behind a family tragedy.

Friday Night at the Movies – Lion

If you are looking for a guaranteed AMAZING movie to watch this weekend, I cannot recommend Lion enough. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. You know how some movie affect you long after the credits stop rolling? That’s this movie. I sobbed. Like actually sobbed, and I’m not a crier. It was incredible! Here’s a little synopsis:

Five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

Friday Night at the Movies – Call the Midwife, Season 5

I just finished watching Call the Midwife Season 5 and wanted to let you know it’s available on Netflix right now. 🙂 I LOVE this show and wish there were more quality programs like this. The British… they do it so well.

“The year is 1961, and Poplar is beginning to feel the winds of social change alongside improvements in housing, sanitation and healthcare. But for the midwives and nuns of Nonnatus House, it’s business as usual, as they continue to care for the sick and bring new life into the world. The personal and professional lives of the nurses remain entwined, as events in their work impact on their personal choices.”

Season 6 of Call the Midwife will be available from Amazon on May 23rd if you are interested.

Friday Night at the Movies – Shetland

Okay people… I have a new series for you. I discovered it last weekend and binge watched all three seasons {on Netflix} over 4 days while I was working on my rug hooking projects.

Shetland. It’s a BBC Scotland crime drama television series that takes place largely on the Scottish archipelago of Shetland. I highly suggest using the sub titles and having your remote handy in case you want to hit the pause button. Seriously. If you’ve never heard a Scottish person speak before you really have to pay attention. And some of the words they use… well, it’s almost like they have slang for their slang words. I LOVE IT. But I did find myself hitting the pause button during the first series so I could look up a couple of words so I knew what they were talking about.

Oh and the main character, Detective Jimmy Perez, he’s kind of a hottie. In a 50 year old slightly depressed male, no frills kind of way. He’d make an excellent neighbor. Plus he looks good in a pea coat. And not many guys can pull that off.

If my husband is reading this I’m pretty sure he just rolled his eyes. 😉

Whateva.

Shetland. Check it out. I give it a 5 out of 5.
