Friday Night at the Movies – Escape to the Country

If you love English homes in the countryside than you are going to LOVE the BBC series Escape to the Country. I discovered it a few weeks ago on Netflix and was hooked. Although there are a whopping 18 seasons of the program, only season 1 is available on Netflix.

Trust me, this show is LOVELY. It is a total 180 from house hunting shows we see here in the US. The HH even commented on how well the show was done.

Friday Night at the Movies – The Durrells in Corfu

I stumbled up upon The Durrells in Corfu earlier this week and am ABSOLUTELY in love with this show!!! “Based on naturalist Gerald Durrell’s much-loved trilogy of novels, The Durrells in Corfu sees impoverished but sparky widow Louisa Durrell (Keeley Hawes, MI-5) make the radical decision to leave 1930s England to seek out a new destiny for her family.”

The 6 episode season is currently available with Amazon Prime and there is a season 2 in the works but a release date has not been set yet. Go watch it. It’s awesome.

Friday Night at the Movies – The Iron Lady

Here’s what’s on the movie menu for tonight. Meryl Streep {one of my favorite actresses ever}, stars in The Iron Lady. She plays Margaret Thatcher, the first female Prime Minster of the United Kingdom. The story of Thatcher’s life is told through a series of flashbacks experienced by the woman long after she left office as the British prime minister with the longest tenure of the 20th century.

You see how she entered politics, met her husband, rose to power, earned the Iron Lady nickname, and was pushed from office by her own party. Because I’m kind of unfamiliar with her life and politics, I think it’ll be educational. It’s also free on Netflix right now!

Since I’m addicted to all things Royal, I couldn’t stop watching Lucy Worsley’s Tales From The Royal Bedchamber {long name, great show}. Apparently I’m not alone! Lucy Worsely sets out to reveal how our obsession with royal bedrooms, births and succession is nothing new. The actual focus of this documentary is not as sensational or salacious as the title suggests. It is more of a history of the importance and role of the bedchamber as it evolved along with the British monarchy, beginning with the medieval era. And at only an hour, it’s a quick watch. Plus, it’s free on YouTube!
