I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. With the help of coupons, gardening and bartering I am able to squeeze the most out of our grocery budget and still manage to have a little fun along the way.

Friday Night at the Movies – Magdalene Sisters

I saw this several years ago, so when it popped up to stream for free on Netflix, I decided to put it on the docket for tonight.  The Magdalene Sisters is a story about three women who are sent to live in a convent to work off crimes that they did not commit.  Fair warning:  it is heartbreaking to watch at times, but so worth it.

At the suggestion of One Hundred Dollar a Month reader, Aileen, tonight I am going to check out Philomena.  It’s about an Irish woman, who travels to America with a reporter to find a child she put up for adoption many, many years prior.  It looks like a real tear-jerker, so better have some kleenex on hand.

Madame Bovary is now on Netflix, so I decided I’m going to settle down tonight and give it a watch. The story focuses on a doctor’s wife, Emma Bovary, who has adulterous affairs and lives beyond her means in order to escape the emptiness of provincial life. It looks pretty interesting, so I’m looking forward to it.
