I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. Tonight The Girl and I are back on the documentary train.  We will be watching The Greenhorns.  It’s a film about the new generation of people who are committed to bringing sustainable agriculture back.  I think it’s going to be one of those garden affirming sorts of movies, and who doesn’t love that?

New Chipotle Ad Takes a Poke at Food Standards in America

Have you all seen the new Chipotle ad?  It is dark and disturbingly telling.  It exaggerates {kind of} the state of our food system and how removed we’ve become from our food–and HOW we get it.

Whenever ads start to reflect a grass roots trend, I always take notice, because it seems like it’s an indication that the mainstream on a whole is starting to change their mindset.

Watch it, tell me what you think.  Do you think the message of whole, responsibly produced foods is finally taking off?

Friday Night at the Movies – How It’s Made

Okay, so I know this is not exactly a movie, but How It’s Made is a ridiculously educational series from the Science Channel and you can get it free on Netflix or with Amazon Prime.  Each episode literally shows you how common things you’ve probably never even thought of before are made.  I know it doesn’t take much, but this show seriously blows my mind, and since we have people coming into town this weekend, The Girl and I can’t commit to an entire movie.

Friday Night at the Movies – 13 Going On 30

The Girl and I have enjoyed taking a little break from the documentaries lately in exchange for something a little more light-hearted.  So, tonight, we are watching 13 Going on 30.  If you haven’t seen it, I know it seems cheesy, but I recommend it.  It is such a cute show about a 13 year old girl who makes a wish on her 13th birthday to be grown up {kind of like the movie Big with Tom Hanks, only this one is for the ladies} and of course, gets her wish.  It’s a  really endearing movie about the awkward and funny aspects of growing up.
