You know you’ve found a good bakery when you are still talking about the muffin you ate the day before. Seriously, I AM IN LOVE with the gingerbread muffin I ate yesterday at the Gingerbread Construction Company in Wakefield, Massachusetts and everybody needs to know about it. 😉

A few days ago, One Hundred Dollars a Month reader Barbara sent me an email telling me about one of her favorite bakeries, the Gingerbread Construction Company. So yesterday, the HH and I decided to stop by and check it out after dropping my parents off at the airport. And let me tell you Bob, I’m so glad we decided to make the mini detour on our way home.

There were so many muffins, we didn’t know what to order so we asked the lady behind the counter what the best selling muffins were. The best selling muffin at the Gingerbread Construction Company in Wakefield, Massachusetts, was the The gingerbread muffin of course {I don’t know why, but I was amused by this, I guess it should have been obvious, it being a gingerbread place and all}.

So we ordered one gingerbread muffin, and blueberry, coffee cake and a strawberry shortcake muffin as well. And then we noticed the gingerbread whoopie pies, and needed one of those. And two gingerbread cookies and a gingerbread muffin loaf to bring home. Because apparently we are a bunch of little piggies who can’t resist baked goods.

Gingerbread + Cream Cheese = LOVE

Gingerbread cookies… One for each hand. Seems reasonable, right?

So, if you are anywhere near the Wakefield, Massachusetts area {it’s only about 20 minutes from Boston} or you are looking for a sweet treat to send someone this fall, don’t hesitate to stop in and load up on muffins or place an order online. This place, is the bomb diggety. Everything is CRAZY moist and so fresh, you won’t be disappointed, I’m sure of it!

I’m already counting down the days until we can go back.

Good, independent hometown bakeries, you just can’t beat them!

Seattle Sheraton | Gingerbread Village 2012 – Narnia

This Narnia gingerbread display we saw last weekend was pretty impressive, even if it was a little short in the gingerbread department. The younger children at the exhibit really seemed to crowd around this one, and it was definitely a favorite.

The artist {or team of artists} must have taken days, if not weeks to mold all of the colored fondant into the different characters and bits of scenery.

I think the evil White Witch looked scarier in fondant, than in the movie. Look at those eyes. Yikes!

Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy are in some sort of deep discussion. Poor Lucy, she appears as if she is going to fall over and faint. Oh Dear!

Here are a few more pictures of the amazing gingerbread house display The Girl and I saw at the Sheraton Hotel in Seattle this past weekend. This one is titled Ariel’s Underwater Castle.

Does anyone know how old King Triton is? Look at those pecs.

The sea life below King Triton’s castle was superbly done. I really like how the artist used colored licorice sticks, fondant, and Nerds candy to create the coral and sea life below the castle.

I need to find out if any of the chefs that made these gingerbread houses will be back next year. Because if they need a candy taste tester, I would totally be up for the job. I’ve already got the crappy British teeth, so they way I see it, I’d be a perfect candidate.

I have never read the tale The Brother’s Grimm, but I know one thing for sure, I’d love to live in their gingerbread castle any day of the week.

The candy covered turrets were amazing.

Can you spot the jolly fondant guard? A tower made out of sugar cubes and candy stars?

Check out the glistening rock candy. My teeth ache just looking at this.

A pretzel awning, jelly bean rocks, and walls made of gingerbread. You couldn’t ask for anything more if you tried.
