This morning The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and I walked over the the V&A Museum. The V&A has everything from paintings and statues, to decorative arts of all kinds. Old, modern, unusual, you name it. They have it all.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this morning…

There was a cool display of various house plans in the architect wing. This one depicts a typical London house in the 1920’s.

Obviously these homes were designed by men because there is absolutely no closet space.

David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust costume {it was hand knitted you know}.

No Freakin way!!! They even had an Eglu. I love this place!

One of the great things about London is there are flowers everywhere you turn.

Front porches, store fronts, museums, I love it.

Here are just a few of the pictures I took this morning while on a walk around our hotel.

Well, we made it to London, and holy cow the city is packed!

Our First stop of the day was to the Natural History Museum to look at rocks. Yep. The Girl is a rock freak, so we walked a mile to check out the very same rocks we’ve already seen 3 times before. Seriously, who does that?

We also checked out the exhibit Animal Inside Out. Which was both creepy and cool at the same time.

And, my beloved Dodo bird. Isn’t he cute? I’d like to think I’d have a few pet Dodo birds if they were not extinct. There is just something about them that I like.

We also went to Harrods Department Store to use the loo {they’ve got the best toilets in town}. While we were there, we discovered their new pet store on the fourth floor.

We spotted a cat for 1,000 £, and overheard them telling an potential customer that a few small dogs would be arriving next week. But what was most surprising was the guinea pigs we saw priced at 35£ {$54 USD}. Now, I haven’t been into a pet store for an awfully long time, but the last time I was there, guinea pigs were about $5 each.

Is there something I’m missing here? Are guinea pigs that hard to come by? Why on earth would someone pay $54 for one? I don’t get it.

After the Natural History Museum and Harrods, we were off to Bea’s of Bloomsbury for afternoon tea. I first found out about Bea’s of Bloomsbury last January while I was searching Amazon for a new cookbook. When I saw the picture on the front cover of her book Tea with Bea, I immediately hit the ORDER button.

When the book arrived, I read it front to back, and quickly decided that the next time we were in London, we would go to her shop for high tea. And that is exactly what we did. In fact, what you see pictured above was what we ate for dinner tonight {along with a few finger sandwiches I forgot to take a picture of}.

And that, is exactly what we did this afternoon.

We came, we saw, we conquered.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go get some shut eye and rest up for tomorrow.

Snow!

Remember this bark pile?

I was rather surprised to find out (after the snow had melted) the boys in fact DID NOT shovel it all away… (only about 1/3rd)

Instead… when it started to rain like crazy on Sunday evening… oh let’s say around 11:30 PM… (exactly 24 hours after arriving home) the Handsome Husband woke up and started freaking out… because the enormous pile of bark was blocking the drainage ditch…

So… we stood there… in the dark… at midnight… and shoveled bark… in the pouring rain… out of the drainage ditch… for 30 minutes… in complete and utter silence.

Moving On…….

The Girl Who Thinks She’s A Bird is taking photography this semester…

And the chickens have decided to start laying again…

The only time we went to a restaurant on our whole adventure was in NYC… Our whole family is totally into adventure shopping at the local grocery…

I would have taken pictures inside the market but it seemed rude…
One of the cardinal rules about traveling to another country is to try and NOT look like a tourist…

The hotel we stayed at provided (free of charge) all the juice, water, soda, liquor (we passed on that) you could drink… the only catch was you had to walk downstairs to get it.
So after sightseeing one day we brought up some juice and soda… only to notice the juice bottles required a bottle opener… so we shared the 7up instead of walking down 5 flights of stairs.
Here’s a very bad photo of the inside of our elevator… the interior dimensions were 4 feet by 4 feet… If you had a bag with you you had to either hold it up in the air so you could stand or take the stairs… we were on the 5th floor… let’s just say we did a lot of stair climbing…

One of the coolest things about grocery shopping in Great Britain and Ireland is they tell you where all the produce/veggies come from… like these beans for instance… were from Kenya. They grow beans in Kenya? How interesting.

I was sitting across from 5 Rabbi’s at JFK…writing a blog post…in an almost empty terminal when all the sudden I heard a group of four woman ask “Can we get your picture?”…

So I looked up…

It was Mick Jagger…
(He’s surprisingly short by the way)

Instinctively I reached for my camera only to notice the memory card was still in my computer… I started to pull it out with my left hand and reach for my camera with my right…(which was in my tote bag on the floor) when I realized I’d have to leap over the Rabbi’s (and look like an idiot) in order to get an awkward picture with a 70 year old man who’s music I don’t really listen to. So instead I sent the HH a text… “I just saw Mick Jagger”

His reply:

Get a Picture!!!

I laughed… because really… what the heck would I do with a picture of Me & Mick Jagger?

Oh… and we sat in front of THIS BAND on the flight from London to JFK…
I didn’t talk to them either (on the flight)

BUT… when we were in the Taxi queue in NYC… they were getting into 3 different taxi cabs when I noticed they had left an instrument case behind… I ran towards one of the girls and shouted like a crazy person “HEY… I think you forgot one of your cases”… she was like “Ohhhhh… thank you! Thank you soooo much”

I didn’t get my picture with her either…

And in case you’re wondering…

This is all the loot we brought back from London…
Almost all of it was food… Is that strange?
