I am your typical housewife living in high maintenance suburbia. I have a handsome husband, 2 kids and a flock of pet chickens. I try and feed my family with $100 a month. With the help of coupons, gardening and bartering I am able to squeeze the most out of our grocery budget and still manage to have a little fun along the way.

I’m sure through no fault of my own {ha!}, my house has gone to heck in a hand basket.  Practically every cupboard, drawer, closet, etc. has a bunch of crap thrown in it from the last time I deep cleaned my house.  The funny thing is that last time I cleaned out everything, I seriously convinced myself that I would never let it get chaotic again.  Don’t you just hate it when you have to eat your own words?

January is my month though, people!  I am committed to clearing out the clutter.  I am getting a new lease on life.  AND, I think I have a totally different outlook than I did last time.  I’ve realized that you can only be so organized when you have too much stuff.

Eventually, maintaining all of that stuff is just to big of a task.  SO, I’m clearing crappity crap out.  I’m actually kind of excited to see how much of the junk that I’ve shoved into drawers will end up in the garage sale pile {or the trash}.  I’ve been saving stuff for a rainy day–and since practically everyday is rainy here, and I still haven’t used it {ha!}, it’s got to go.

Clear spaces, clear mind.  Isn’t that how it’s supposed to go?  Anyhow, this month, I’m letting you in on my dirty little secrets–you basically get to virtually go through my drawers, closets and cupboards.  Each day, I’ll pick one area of my house to clean, de-clutter, and reorganize. Yesterday I cleaned out the built in cupboards in the family room {and found a couple of little gems in the process}.

30 days 30 bags

I loaded up the trunk of my car today and headed to the woman’s shelter and local thrift store. There won’t be any time for spring cleaning this year, because I’ll be too busy in the garden.

So I packed the kids old suitcases from when they we teeny tiny little people with gently worn clothing, old backpacks and a few Christmas gifts I know we won’t use. I’d rather someone who can use them have the stuff rather than it sitting in a closet collecting dust for the next 5 years.

I also found a few extra blankets we were not using, and donated the smaller of our two Christmas trees as well.

30 bags 30 days

As we were packing up the Christmas ornaments this year, The Girl made it known that we will be having a REAL Christmas tree next year. Not a fake one. She already has the tree farm picked out, and I wouldn’t put it past her to have her tree picked out too.

I don’t know about you, but getting rid of stuff feels good. Only 22 more bags/boxes to go.  Yee-Haw!

How to Get Organized in 30 Days

I don’t know about you, but there is a boatload of crapity, crap in practically every nook and cranny of my house. Things I don’t need, don’t want, don’t fit, don’t know where the heck they came from. You know, crap.

By the time spring cleaning rolls around I’ll be too busy in the garden to clean my house, so I figured hey, why not do it now. So over the next 30 days,  each morning I’m going to pick a closet, cupboard, or drawer and clean it out. I’ll haul all the usable stuff to the dinning room, and then when I’m done, I’ll bag it up and donate it.

Because you know what they say, one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.

Yee-Haw! Let the goods time begin.

P.S. This is where being an incredibly snappy dresser pays off. Solid colors never go out of style.
