The Handsome Husband doesn’t know this yet, but when we are old and grey we are going to live in a thatched roof cottage by the sea. I will get a few white swans for the backyard pond, putter around the garden, and bake cookies all day while he chops wood, and grumbles while he reads the local paper.
Here are a few candidates.
And I’ll also have a few of these giant owls in the backyard as well.
So what do you think? Which house is your favorite, and where do YOU dream of living when you grow up?

I love the house with all the grass!! I’d need a cow or two to help with the mowing.
Lisa says
I like the second house. You should create one of those owl’s in your backyard this spring! I dream of living in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
Mary Ann says
Love ’em all, but love the one with the grass rooftop best!
What I really want, though, is to live in a log home in the middle of the woods amidst all the trees and wildlife!

I love the one above the owls!
I’ll be living in Southeast Alaska (Thorne Bay) if our 10 year plan comes to fruition (which we made 4 months ago LOL).
We already have 4 acres at the top plateau of a mountain down there and a house my husband’s dad built in the eaaaarly 70’s. So, that needs some work but it’s paid for. Bonus is there is no property or sales tax.
I will spend my days talking to chickens, gardening, canning my arms off, and gathering fresh seafood (halibut, rockfish, salmon, clams, shrimp, crabs, etc). My husband really badly wants to start oyster farming down there, it’s a common yet hard pocket industry there now.

Love them all but I think the first one is a fav. Although the grass roofed one is pretty sweet.
When I grow up, I want to live on the shore of Jenny Lake in Wyoming. My sister and I really want to run away from home NOW and go live there, in the Grand Tetons, but would have to become a park ranger to live there 🙁 . So am thinking of Ft. Collins, CO, where I have a cousin that doesn’t come back east all that often and and is my best friend. Or Australia. haven’t really decided yet because I don’t want to grow up yet.

I love where I live now in SW Washington state. It’s beautiful, the weather isn’t too warm in the summer nor too cold in the winter. I would like to build on our acreage (dream, dream) so any one of these beautiful houses would do. Any chance we could find one of these free? You do so well with free food maybe you could figure that out for us?

Big fire hazard Mavis…. not a good idea, sorry.
Kate in NY says
I love them all, but especially the ones with the green grass roofs!
This might seem funny to you, but my dream for when I am old and gray is to move with my own handsome husband to the Pacific Northwest! I am a NY girl, born and bred – – – my friends do not think I’d survive outside of the New York metropolitan area. But I’ve visited the Seattle area a couple of times, and I just got such a good vibe there – especially in Port Townsend – I knew it could be home for me one day. Do you think I could keep a cow in Port Townsend?
Mavis says
Port Townsend is a cool town. I love the downtown area, lot’s of coffee shops and small mom and pop stores. 🙂

I’ve always told my hubby that when we are retired I want to split our time between a cabin in the mountains (which we have now) and a cottage by the sea. We will live at the beach in the winter time and then get out of dodge before the tourists show up!

Lady, you know you have mad growing skills. How long do think it would take your husband to notice that you were growing grass/thatch on your roof? 🙂
Michelle says
I love the one with the living roof! I would put it in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!

I read that the art of preserving and repairing the thatched roof is dying out as the ones that know how to age and no one wants to take it on. Like a lot of things.
I like them all, they all have different things that make that attractive. The second one reminds me of the good fairys’ house in Disney Cinderella. I like the real green roof the best. There is a restaurant not too far north of us with a grass roof and it has “live on” goats when the weather is good.
Elizabeth F says
Oh you can google the restaurant, Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant and they have a goat cam.
