The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and I sat down last night and placed our chick order with mypetchicken.com. I like ordering from this company because they offer a huge selection and you can order as little as 1 of each variety to build a unique backyard flock.
This year we are splitting an order with a friend so we placed an order for 12 birds and we will keep 6 of them. Here are the chickens we selected:
We already have one of these birds and we call her Black Fatty. We will call this one Baby Fat.
We ordered the bantam version last year and sweet little Martha escaped. So this year we ordered the full size version and plan to call her Big Martha.
This is a new breed for us and I feel we are taking a bit of a gamble with this bird. There is only a 50% chance our hen will look like the one you see above. Here is what mypetchicken had to say: PLEASE NOTE: the color blue does not hatch true in chickens. Blue is a diluting gene for black. So, 50% of your Blue Andalusians will hatch blue, and 25% will be black. The last 25% will be “splash,” having received two diluting genes. Splash is a very light color, pale blue or white with “splashes” of black and darker blue in the feathers, especially in the wings and tail. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN YOU ORDER! Not all of your blues will actually be blue!
Plus she lays white eggs! Yikes!
Colored eggs are a must! Although we already have an Easter Egger, she rarely lays anymore so we figured it was time to order a replacement.
We had wanted to place an order for a White Cochin {White Fatty} but the ship date was to far out for we settled on the Partridge Cochin.
I told myself we would not order anymore bantams but The Girl fell in love with the Silver Sebright Bantam. I must say she is gorgeous!
Do YOU have any of these birds? If so what has been your experience with them?

I do not have any of those yet. We ordered 6 partridge cochins though along with a bunch of others. My husband went a bit chicken crazy (again). I think we ended up ordering 18 pet chickens not counting the meat chickens.
