Nice work Mavis!!! 🙂
Dani says
Awesome job….mavis how do you organize your coupons
KJ says
Nicely done! A little bit jealous… Just a tad!:)
Samantha says
Use the last two $1 catalinas and get some free chicken! That’s at least 1.5 lbs worth at the $1.67/lb price! 🙂 At my albertsons I did the kotex tampons deal and instead of spitting out only a $1 Catalina it spit out two, in two different transactions. Score!
Mavis says
Actually The Girl is requesting cream cheese for her bagels we picked up {that are in still in the freezer} otherwise I think I’d grab the chicken. 🙂 Congrats on scoring the extra catalina! I love when that happens.
Brenda says
What is your strategy for so many transaction? At my Albertsons a costumer is only allowed 3 doublers per transaction with up to 3 separate transaction. I have to say very impressive with your shopping.
Jenna Consolo says
So, how do you manage to not infuriate all the people in line with 30 transactions? And how do you keep that all straight in your head?
Very impressive.
Alyssa says
She follows the Albie’s rule to do 3 transactions in a row, and if someone else is behind her in line, she goes and gets back in line and does another 3, etc. If there’s no one in line, she can do as many transactions as she wants! Albie’s just asks that you are courteous to other shoppers and limit it to 3 transactions and then let other shoppers in line go. It’s a good rule…you really don’t want to tick off others by hogging the checkout lane with your 3 items that you buy and lots of transactions. 🙂
Mavis says
I write everything down before I head in and there was no one behind me so I was able to zip right through the transactions. If there are people behind me I’ll let them go ahead of me or just put my stuff aside and come back when the store isn’t so busy.
Trust me, there is nothing worse than having to stand behind a lady with 50 million coupons when all you want to buy is milk. 🙂 I get that. 🙂
Shawn says
I am really interested in your deal digging. I have just been forwareded your blog link by some friends who saw the CNN link and they thought of me instantly. Mostly because of the garden, but I have to say I am INTRIGUED! I want to know more! How do you do it?
Kim says
I’d love to see your pantry/stockpile and how you organize everything you get!
AllisonH says
How do you get so many printable coupons and doubles? I have really had trouble since Albertson’s stopped having the double sheets at the customer service desk! Nicely done:)
Jennifer says
She only had 2 printable coupons but you can get as many doublers as you want by buying the newspapers, she has a lot of friends in her neighborhood who give her their newspaper inserts as well. I get my papers at the dollar store, I got 15 this week.
I was able to get cheap milk, bacon, cheese, free eggs and a bunch of other stuff with all the $1 coupons that I got. I ended up getting 15 and was able to double all of them making that a $30 savings on its own 🙂 Plus I got some planters trail mix for $0.39 each, the free Mt Olive Peppers and some other stuff. On my last transaction I finally got my $5 reward so I decided to use it right there and buy 4 bags of goldfish crackers and ended up paying $0.38 cents for them 🙂
Still have 4 more doublers to use either tomorrow or tuesday but don’t know what I’ll get yet 🙂
Mavis says
I get most of my coupons and doublers from friends, neighbors and recycling. As for the printable coupons, anyone could print the same amount that I did. Typically the rule is 2 per computer, but for some reason I was able to print out 3 yogurt coupons. 🙂
Ashley says
I got a laugh out of Kari on FB :p Although, I agree, this is the most ‘junk food’ Mavis has bought in a long time (and I’m sure it”l last them forever…), IF you’ve followed her blog and have seen her garden posts, well…I’m quite sure she’ll find some way to make spinach/carrot/quinoa/milkyway brownies!
So, yes, some people need to lighten up and eat a pop tart! Mmmm, I’ve got a crazy pop tart craving now….
Mavis says
Sadly there will be no milky way brownies. Candy bars a pretty rare in our house and The Girl and the HH ran off with them as soon as they spotted them. 🙂 I’ll have to hide them a little quicker next time. 🙂
Cindy says
I think you did a great job! I am so jealous! We don’t have double coupons here in Hawaii! Love your Garden also!!
Mavis says
You may not have double coupons in Hawaii, but you have sand, sun and tropical fruit. 🙂 I’m jealous!
Elisabeth S. says
What a wonderful deal on Vinegar!!!!! I see a bunch of pickling in your future Mavis!!!! I did couponing for a while but it got hard when I started taking care of a darling little girl on top of caring for my toddler. I love the idea but hope to find a more efficient way to do the couponing as the kiddos grow older and i have a bit more time to organize.
Keep up the wonderful work!
Mavis says
Thank you Elizabeth! 🙂
Heather says
Nicely done! I wondered what you had on your magic list of doubles today! I love that you post your results on Sundays even when I am sure you have better things to do…like weeding or napping! LOL!
I also picked up free vinegar, free Ivory soap bars and then I opted for the Mt. Olives Peppers deal for my homemade pizzas and sandwiches for my honey’s lunches! I even snuck in 4 Milky Way bars for a camping trip later in the month…they don’t last long here either, so they are in the freezer for safe keeping! 🙂 Chocolate makes it all better right?!
BTW, Pop-Tarts…new Barter Currency…those babies do come in a silver foil package for a reason!
Lucky L says
What is the “SS” designation after some of the coupons?
Mavis says
SS means Smart Source, which is the name of the coupon insert. On any given week there are 1-4 coupon inserts in a Sunday paper. There are also RP = Red Plum, GM = General Mills, PG= Proctor & Gamble. 🙂
Patti says
I wasn’t even going to use my doublers this week. Just didn’t see much to get excited about. That changed with your post! Now I’m planning a trip. Thanks Mavis!
Suz says

I live in a small town in IA. There is no where that I know of that doubles coupons?! Does anyone know of a large place that doubles coupons close by me that I may not be aware of?? Even the closest Wal-Mart is 1/2 hour away! And I know they don’t double coupons. We have Walgreen’s, Dollar General, Shop-Ko, Family Dollar, County Market, Hy-Vee, and that’s it in this town. Thanks!
