Okay, okay. So I realize I have mislead you in the past. I might have posted a recipe before that I swore was the best chocolate chip cookie recipe on the planet. I lied. Well technically it wasn’t a lie because I had never used this recipe before. And had I baked these babies up, this is the recipe I would have been raving about. Because it’s hands down the best thing you’ll try all week (month? year?). Crispy on the outside, chewy and chocolaty on the inside. Be still my heart.
Wanna know the secret ingredient that makes all the difference? Water. Yep, good ol H2O. Who knew?
So now you should probably make these and report back. Do you agree they are the tastiest things ever? If you say no, we can still be friends, I just don’t think you’ll say no. They are that good.
Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened {not melted!!}
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups unsifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda {15 Cool Uses for Baking Soda}
2 teaspoons hot water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate baking chips {Ghirardelli are my favorite}
1 cup chopped walnuts {optional}
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 F.
In large mixing bowl, mix the butter with the sugars on medium speed until nice and creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time and the vanilla. Mix on low speed until incorporated. Stir the baking soda with the warm water first and then add to the batter. Gradually stir in the flour and salt into the sugar mixture. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Drop heaping 2 tablespoon-sized balls of dough about 2 inches apart on baking sheets {I use silpats}. You can make these smaller but I like the larger cookies!
Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven, and let cool and then transfer to a wire rack. Enjoy!

The cookies are fresh out of the oven, and delicious! They didn’t spread, as my chocolate chip cookies usually do. A keeper for sure.

I also made them tonight. I ran out of regular sugar and substituted powered sugar for 1/2 a cup and they still turned out flawless. So delicious, I’m going to take them on a picnic tomorrow.
