I just finished reading an article in a local magazine…
According to a survey by the National Retail Federation… couples will be spending less this year on Valentines Day…
The article says…
The typical Male will spend $135 on Valentines…
The typical Female will spend about half that…

Ahem…
I have several issues with this…
#1 I think Valentine’s Day is LAME… there I said it.
I don’t get it… why do we need a special day filled with mass produced paper products destined for the trash, flowers that will die and restaurant dinners that will break the budget.
Am I just cheap?
Am I the only person who thinks they don’t need Hallmark or their manufactured holiday to show my dearest how much I love him? Can’t it just go unwritten the fact The Handsome Husband gets up and goes to work everyday to support his family… you know… like putting a roof over our heads and stuff like lifting heavy objects, unclogging toilets and occasionally bringing me tea is enough? I don’t need a day circled on the calendar to prove it?

I didn’t always think this way…
In the beginning of our marriage I would get extremely upset if the Handsome Husband didn’t buy me a card for my birthday… Valentines… or Mother’s Day… not to mention this was when we HAD NO MONEY to buy such things… but something inside me still craved them.
As our marriage progressed I stopped needing little manufactured tokens of affection… instead what I’ve grown to crave most of all was something which cannot be bought… and that is….
Time…
Time with my husband…
You can buy paper cards and flowers… but you cannot buy time.
Please take note: I did leave out giving chocolate … but if the Handsome Husband were to buy me chocolate I’d be thrilled/satisfied with a single Toblerone Bar…
For about 15 seconds…
Then I’d ask how much it he paid for it…
