Okay people, if you are even remotely near Spokane, Washington you need to stop by The Common Crumb Artisan Bakery. Mrs. HB and I found it when we were checking out antique stores in the area and let me tell you Bob, it’s worth the drive.
There were SO MANY delicious pastries to try, we had a hard time narrowing it down to just 5 items. ๐
So I have this theory about eating copious amounts of pastries and still being able to lose the muffin top. All you really have to do is replace your lunch time meal {or breakfast} with a visit to the bakery.
Take this delicious carrot cake for instance. It was made with carrots, and eggs. So how is that any different than let’s say scrambling up yourself a pan of sautรฉd carrots and eggs for breakfast? In my mind… it’s no different, no different at all. ๐
Is it just me or is every bakery on the planet now selling granola? It must be a big seller. I’ve always made my own granola, but hey, anything is better than the boxed stuff that’s been sitting on the grocery shelf.
The macarons! Mrs. HB wanted to sample all of them but she narrowed it down to one. The strawberry lemonade macaron and she LOVED it!
Seriously. I just couldn’t get enough of the beautiful pastries at The Common Crumb. I honestly think this whole Save the Bakeries Goalย has been the most fun new years resolution I’ve ever made. I know it’s certainly the tastiest. ๐
Dessert. It’s a good thing. In moderation of course.
Keep calm and eat on…

I’m curious if you got to stay at the Davenport while in Spokane? Is that where you enjoyed high tea? A good friend of mine got married there a few years back, and I really enjoyed staying there. So beautiful!

We did not have high tea at the Davenport. If we would have, I’m sure it would have been about 100 times better. ๐

RE: granola recipes–can you suggest a good recipe without the peanut butter? I make granola also but use some oil with the honey and noticed that yours don’t have any oil but peanut butter instead. Thanks.

Yep. This one has great reviews. http://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/no-nut-granola

I live in the Spokane area and didn’t know they existed! I am going to have to take my girls and mom there one day. Thank you, Mavis, for featuring them!

I live in Spokane too and didn’t know of this place! Nor did I know about the thrift store you talked about on Indiana. So excited to go! Thank you Mavis!

This is for Mrs. HB: shoes are important in business – and when you find comfortable ones, buy them in every color. I posted earlier in the week about being too hard on yourself. Well just last night there was a post about Chelsea Clinton and her ratty heels and how she keeps wearing them – and BTW- they do look awful and she should certainly know better. So everything in MODERATION

I wish I would have ran into you in Spokane! I don’t know if I have ever seen you post anything about when your readers see you out in public and recognize you. Do they act like you are a rock star or famous person, taking selfies and such? Is it weird when people know you, but you don’t know them and they act like you are best friends? Thanks for all your posts
