And then it hit me.
My teacher friend was not my sons home room teacher. Nor was Mr. Blankety Blank.
That meant…
My sons class was no longer in the lead… They were not even in 2nd place.
Hmm…

I suddenly jerked the car around and headed towards home.
I ran inside and gathered as much food as I could find within a matter of 2 minutes and raced back towards the school.
Once at the school I calmly walked in with my friends’ (the teacher) 50 requested items, knocked on her classroom door and handed them to her. Her eyes lit up. I could see victory in her eyes. Her homeroom would once again win the highly competitive food drive competition. “Thank you Thank you Thank you.”
I smiled… She did a little happy dance as she closed her classroom door.
I waited about 5 seconds. AND THEN I RAN TO MY CAR! As fast as I could I swooped up hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of non-persihables from the back of my car and hurriedly tossed them into several boxes. I quickly scrawlled Monkey Boy’s homeroom name across then and charged into the office.
I have a donation for Miss Lala’s class… (and YES… I said it with a HUGE smile on my face). Oh wow! Okay, well the food drive is just about to close, (I already knew this of course) let me get Mark… he is keeping the classroom tally, I’ll have him count your donation. What was your child’s teachers name again?
One. Two.Twenty.Fourty. One Hundred. Two hundred. Three hundred and Twenty Seven items.
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I then took a seat in the office. I sat. And waited for the winner of the classroom food drive to be announce.
Well it was a tough compeption this year… and the students brought in a record number donations for the local food bank blah blah blah…
And the winner of the Pizza party… Is…… Miss. Lala’s class! Congratulations!
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
About 2 minutes later school let out. I watched as Monkey Boy walked down the halls… his friends giving him high fives… he had a HUGE smile on his face. He won. He helped his class win the food drive. It was quite a sight to see.
And then I saw her. My friend the teacher. She had mixed look on her face.
I sheepishly walked up to her and said. I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist, but don’t forget… I did bring you your 50 items. 😉
She smiled as she shook her head a little.
She didn’t have to say anything. I knew what I had done.
I had taken insider information and used it to my advantage. And won. And I had felt bad about it.
So as if to offer an olive branch… I told her Don’t worry… I have your back for next year. I’ll use coupons and pick up a enough free stuff so you can win it next year.
She laughed and knowingly said Oh I know you will.
