I’m going to let you in on a little secret: I’m a season snob. I don’t feel like all seasons are created equal. Hot, clammy summers are for the birds. But Fall? I think I could do fall year round! It is, hands down, my favorite season {sorrynotsorry summer/winter/spring} There are so many things I love about fall. Here are my top 6:
The change: I think after enduring so many hot months, when fall rolls around, I’m so ready for it I can hardly stand it. The air starts to cool in the mornings. I live for that crisp fall air. And in an odd way, I am renewed and invigorated. Fall puts a little pep in my step. And as a bonus, I get to open the windows, shut off the a/c and let the fresh air flow in.
The view: Love fall or hate it, can we all just agree that it is the most beautiful season. When the leaves change color, it’s like a freakin scenic picture every time I step outside. And don’t even get me started on the landscape in New England in the fall. I could walk the streets for hours just to stare. So beautiful!
The wardrobe: I’m not a big bathing suit and flip flop girl. I love boots, jeans, and sweaters. Fall gives me all of those things. I love layering up and curling up with a blanket in front of the fire. Everything about it just screams cozy!
The holidays: I might not go all out for Halloween, but I absolutely love when adorable little trick-or-treaters ring my bell. Seeing all those smiling, chocolate-smudged faces makes me happy. And then, less than a month later, we get Thanksgiving. I love that we are almost forced to paused and reflect on what we are thankful for. We need like a hundred more of those holidays! And of course, the Thanksgiving feast doesn’t hurt
The food: Speaking of food. Fall gives way to the most delicious baking season. And all things pumpkin and spice and yum. And then we’re left with the smells of all that baking that linger through our house for days. I want to bottle that smell. Oh, wait. People have already done that, I guess. But nothing beats the smell of a fresh apple crisp or pumpkin pie. My mouth is already watering.
What’s your favorite season? Are you a fall lover, too? If so, what’s your favorite thing about fall?

Autumn (which is the BEST word!) is the best of the four. The only down to it are the crusty brown spiders who get in MY way in the woods!

I can’t leave New England because of our beautiful autumns….hands down the best season for all the reasons you gave, plus it’s cool enough now to have a nice fire outside and roast some marshmallows…yum!!!

Maybe it is because I am getting older, but I appreciate all of the seasons much more than I did when I was younger. When I was a child I loved the summer best. Now, I think fall is my favorite season for all the reasons you mentioned particularly opening up the house and the beauty of the changing leaves. I also welcome the change in recipes and particularly look forward to the stews, soups, and baking that fall ushers in. And by this time of the year, I am happy to put the garden to bed!

I really love fall, too–brief though it is. Still, living in Southern New England, my hands-down favorite season is spring. After the chill of winter, there is nothing like the renewal of spring. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where seasons merge together, so I really appreciate having distinct seasons. After a very dry end to summer, we had predictions of mediocre color this fall, but I’m seeing some sharper colors than I’ve seen in a good while.

I love fall. The one reason that I miss living in the northeast. The change of season, sweater/ sweatshirt weather, the colors on the trees. My hometown’s Autumn Leaf festival was a week or two ago. My stepdad is picking bushels of apples from his trees. My niece is tearing it up in cross country (she’s 12).
And here am in So Cal, sweating like a pig. Seriously. It’s 102.4 right now in Santa Barbara.
Every October I think “yay fall!” and every year it’s hot as heck.

I feel for you, Marcia! My daughter lives in SoCal. My husband and I want to move to the coast to be near her and because we absolutely love the ocean, but we sure are loving the Vermont autumn.

I’m just answering your question abt what to make besides cornbread! We love making cornmeal mush, then adding some fried sausage, then putting it in a loaf pan overnight in the fridge, THEN in the a.m. slice it and fry til it’s crispy!! serve with butter and syrup!! Yummmm!

All summer, while everyone around me at work was excited about the sun and hot temperatures, I was just looking forward to all the things you mentioned here.
