When I started this whole “Do you have any scraps I could take home to my chickens” journey, on a whim back in April of 2012, I couldn’t have possibly known that after 7 months, I would have been able to reclaim all of this produce. By just looking at these pictures alone, I’d say we’ve been able to save a few thousand pounds of edible goods from going into the trash. Wheather we were eating it or the chickens, I know we’ve been blessed.
Food is an amazing thing. Some of us have too much of it, and others not enough. So just remember, don’t let it go to waste. If you can’t eat it all, find someone who will.
Peace Out Girl Scouts, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

You have done AMAZINGLY well with all your produce and garden, too! You are such an inspiration to not waste anything. I did waaaay better this year picking and preparing and giving away than ever before (even with a smaller garden thanks to our longer, wet spring)
We’ve been gardening before it was cool – many years- and there are always new things to learn (still)
My very favorite money saving and inspirational tip from you was picking FREE blackberries! They are literally in my back yard (wetlands)
I had never bothered b/c DH said he HATED blackberry jam (a childhood of blackberry/pb sandwiches)
Well, I decided to make it anyways- figuring the kids and grandkids would take some. I made it seedless. 24 pints and 8 of those cute little cup size jars.
Guess what?? DH LOVES the seedless version. It is DELICIOUS!!!
Hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving!! 🙂

Mavis,
It would have been very interesting to know how many pounds of “Chicken Scraps” you were able to salvage from your friendly grocery boxes. I bet those numbers would have been very high. Peggy
