I don’t know about you, but I LOVE before and after photos!
Mario the tile guy came by yesterday and finished the fireplace tile. What do you think? We still have some things to do like buying a few pieces of furniture, painting the trim and hooking up a tv over the mantel, but construction wise, the new family room is finished.
I think Chino and his crew did a great job updating the room and creating a larger space. It’s amazing to me how much the room opened up by pushing back the wall and adding an extra 45 square feet {Compare the photos above the sofa area to see the difference}.
Not a huge change, but still, I really liked how it all turned out.
We most likely won’t finish furnishing the family room until spring because honestly, I need a break. I want to enjoy the holidays and then get my garden started before stage 2 of the remodel begins in March {Master bath, upstairs hallway and Monkey Boy’s bathroom}. I don’t want to have to think about furniture, making stuff to hang on the walls or buying a tv to hang over the mantel.
I just want to stay home and eat cookies and dig in the dirt.
I know, I’m weird like that.
So what do you think? Do you think it looks better than before, or was I crazy to have the room remolded?

I think the lighting makes a huge difference… I love it so much better now.
BUT, I think you should start watching for TV sales now.

In case you miss the December deals, there are great TV sales right before the superbowl, too. We got ours that way. Between the sale, and a couple of gift cards we had saved from Christmas, it was less than half price!

Love the TV thing. Turned out beautiful, space, nice floors. Great job.

Is the fireplace wood burning or gas? If it’s wood burning – make sure you get a fire-stop mat for the floor in front of it. The room looks gorgeous Mavis – you made some wonderful choices with it.

I love it! In our first house, we brought the dining room out only 3 ft which may not seem like much, but boy, the room was so much more comfortable to use. We never regretted it. You will be happier in your home with it! 🙂

Looks fantastic! TOTALLY worth the remodel cost and efforts!! You also made the right call with the kitchen tiles. At first I thought you were crazy but they look awesome and I like them so much better 🙂 Your new house looks really really wonderful!

It looks wonderful, Ms. Mavis. And by leaving it sparse for now, it will be easy to keep clean. You can reach all the floors and there is nothing to dust!

WOW! It looks amazing – especially the extra 5′ you gained. That was brilliant~

Love it! Moving that wall back was inspired, it gives the living room the importance it deserves, instead of feeling like it’s squeezed in where they could.
What is that main wall color?

I actually liked the old fireplace, too, but the room will be much more useful now since it is bigger. You’ve done a beautiful job. The important thing is that you like it!
