Hello… My name is Mavis. I’m still here. The HH was out of town last week and I decided to sleep in. Every.Single.Day. I also didn’t answer the phone, or blog about the usual nothingness that goes on around here. Sorry about that. 🙂 However I did manage to throw on my sunglasses and roll out of bed a few days last week to buy a few provisions… But not a whole lot.
It’s a good thing I have a little thing called a stockpile. It’s also a good thing the kids are older and can fend for themselves. Whomever said Mac & Cheese is not suitable for breakfast is on crack. After all… cheese is a dairy product… it has protein… right?
And 8 slices of (fake) buttered toast (if you’re a teenage boy) can be considered a well balanced breakfast too.
Anyway… here’s what I purchased last week. 2 containers of Real Fruit Pectin $2.33 ($1.19 each less a .05 bag credit at Fred Meyer). 🙂
2 Kettle chips & 1 Mac and Cheese $1.00 oop ( I used double coupons plus a $1 catalina coupon PLUS I got back a $1 catalina).
Paid $ .98 (I used double coupons and a $1.00 catalina Plus I got back a $1.00 catalina).
FREE produce and eggs from the backyard.
Free doughnuts thanks to the Albertsons Sizzlin summer sweepstakes. I paid .62 cents for the fruit (I used a $1.00 catalina).
Free doughnuts and paper towels (Albertsons Summer Sizzlin Sweepstakes)
More free produce from the backyard. 🙂
Because I’m a super nerd… I always glance over at the shopping carts before I head into the grocery store… You never know what you’re going to find.
In one cart I found a $2 catalina and a coupon for a FREE bags of carrots! Hot Diggity! In another I found a coupon for 1 dozen FREE eggs and a FREE pizza with any $10 purchase. It kinda felt like Christmas.
Before I started shopping… I headed over to the customer service desk and redeemed my latest prize. A $2 CASH PRIZE… If you’re trying to win the $2 prize… the hard ticket to find is C184 (the left side of the ice cream container). I’m kinda surprised I’ve only won 1 of the $2 prizes.
Anyway… after my $2 cat, $2 prize money and free coupons… I paid $10.37 for everything above. I really wanted to buy more peaches (to freeze) and I still might go back and get more… But I’m kinda hoping I get a call from Zaycon. When I went to sign up for a 36lb box of peaches they were already sold out in my area… so I’m on the waiting list. They’re offering peaches for $ .79 cents a pound… which is a bargain in my opinion. But we LOVE peaches… we NEED peaches… especially to freeze for winter smoothies… So I might just cave in and go back and buy more for $ .99 a lb at Albertsons tomorrow. We’ll see.
All in all… not bad for an incredibly lazy week of lounging around in my pajama’s, napping and puttering around in the garden while the HH was away.
Total Spent This Week $ 15.30
Total Spent Year To Date $731.76

Wow Mavis, that is awesome you can spend so little and get so much. It’s nice to have slow weeks sometimes.

Your raspberries look amazing!!

I am so envious of your zucchini and raspberries! I made the BIG mistake of experimenting with squash plants this year…so far I’ve harvested 3 nice size zucchini (that taste fabulous), one acorn squash (on a dwindling little plant and it tasted just ok) and not single Blue Hubbard squash that is DOMINATING the garden space!! It grows like a pumpkin vine…not like a zuke plant. Who knew? So did you plant your berries? Or do they grow wild somewhere on your property?
Mavis says
Figgy,
I planted them 3? years ago.

Mavis says

I’ve just got to ask why you bought eggs when you have so many chickens. My house has a bet on the answer . . . Just curious if I will win 🙂
Mavis says
Hey Ruby, You’ll find the answer under the 3rd picture from the bottom of this post… the one with the shopping cart. 🙂

Aahh stink I lost. I guess I should read closer next time!

I tried your tip of checking the shopping carts (“buggies” to us southerners) today and I scored! Some kind soul left their receipt behind along with a $1 catalina! Yay! It doesn’t take alot to amuse me.
