Have you noticed an increase of catalogs in the mail recently?
If there is one thing I look forward to each winter, it’s the seed catalogs. I also love drooling over the ones from William-Sonoma.
But I have no idea how on earth I got on the list for the ones that came in the mail today. One of the catalogs was offering pre-made 8″ tall gingerbread houses for $59+ shipping. Who buys those? Crazy people?
And who is buying FRUITCAKE cookies? Seriously? They look like something a cat would throw up.
Oh, and let’s not forget the new sleeping bags from Pottery Barn Teen. I mean for $179+ shipping, wouldn’t you expect the sleeping bag to at least keep you warm in sub zero temperatures? Sure it would be super fun for sleepovers at your BFF’s chalet in the Swiss Alps, but c’mon… even Mummy would balk at paying $179.
Am I the only one getting these type of catalogs, or are you starting to get them too?

I hate to be gross, but my 2yr old has been sick and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen those fruit cake cookies in her potty.

I opted out years ago from receiving unwanted mail like this. and it actually worked. Only junk I get now are the midweek sales ads for the local grocery stores and an occasional KMart ad, which is odd because we don’t have one any more, they closed last April.

I love getting catalogs, but I’m often amazed at the prices. I mean, who buys this stuff? Really?!? I just saw a set of 6 gorgeous wine glasses that I thought I might actually love to have…that is, until I turned to the page in the catalog to see they were $360! Seriously? C’mon folks.

I get a ton. Probably because I do a lot of online shopping. Mind you not at any of the stores said catalogs are coming from. But they go straight in to the recycle. I don’t look at any of them. Not a one.

The way I see it, I get free cut-up-books for the k-preschool age. And the older kids can use them for collage assignments. Still, gotta be careful and not let the kids think we’d actually buy any of it.

You can stop the catalogs and junk mail from coming. There is an app called PaperKarma (my husband has it since I don’t have a smartphone). You take a picture of the front of the catalog, send to it PaperKarma, and I guess they call the catalog company and try to get you off the mailing list (you give them your address when you sign up). We bought a house in February, and the former homeowners got so many catalogs, it’s ridiculous! So those have decreased substantially, although we are still getting some.

I got 13 catalogs today alone!
My postman jokingly thanks me for his job security whenever he has to bring my mail to the door because it won’t fit in my mailbox. I use to order a lot by mail, these days I just carry them straight to the recycle bin.
