Yesterday, The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird and I rented bicycles. We rented the bikes after we had already walked 3 miles {maybe more, I’m not sure, we got lost about 27 times} to Bon Marché {the oldest department store in Paris}. After walking inside the store, we suddenly discovered the store was a weee bit out of our price range. So after a few minutes inside, we walked out of the store and spied what we thought looked like a grocery store and went inside.
I must admit, one of my favorite all time things to do in a foreign country is to go to the grocery store. I think the way food is displayed, the varieties, and the prices are something to be discovered. You just never know what you are going to find behind closed doors.
*My apologies for the poor quality pictures. I didn’t want to get thrown out of the store. Well, not at least before we were done shopping.
Clearly this was the “French” version of Whole Foods. Strawberries were 4.95€ per 250 grams. That translates to $13 per pound. Hole.Lee.Crap.
Fruit Loops were priced at 7.50€ / $9.85 USD.
And diapers? Ha. Ha. Ha. Either the French use cloth diapers or their children are potty trained by the time they are 6 months old, because they were charging 15.45€ / $20.28 for a regular sized pack. Holy canolies batman. It totally makes be want to start a strawberry farm in France and to figure out how to smuggle diapers into the county. Seriously. Wowza! No wonder everyone here is so skinny, they can’t afford to eat.
One of the really neat-o things about the store was that almost every single item was in a glass or otherwise unique container. They even had creme brulee in glass jars!
In fact I bought a 2-pack of lemon flavored yogurt just so I could bring home the glazed Terra-cotta jar it was packaged in. Talk about a fun memento!
Here is a quick video I made {I should have brought my Go Pro Camera, what was I thinking?} before almost getting hit by a car. C’est la vie!
Life is an adventure. Live it baby! It only comes around once.

Love the yogurt container! I brought some home too. They make great votive candle holders.
Pea Green over the fun you guys are having.
Seriously, check out Cafe de Flore. The area that it is in is wonderful and full of history. Many great writers hung out there (great for a school report) and yeah, the hot chocolate is pricey, but SO worth it! We have such fond memories of having Cafe cream and hot chocolate there with our daughter.
Have the best time you guys….:)

How neat to hear your voice in your video. It’s funny because as I’ve read your blog, I’ve almost invented your voice in my head – nothing like what it really sounds like now that I’ve heard it 🙂 I will probably read it differently now. Thanks for sharing – it looks like an amazing adventure!

I sound like a 12 year old. LOL. And I do the same thing too when I read other peoples blogs. It’s so weird when you finally hear their voice. 🙂
